I really want to start a new life. Suggestions/advice?

I'm 24, been working corporate **** last couple years, have a degree in Business. I really want to move out of Chicago, been here 12 years. I want to travel, see different cultures, do something exciting, etc. I'm sure I'm not alone. But wondering what people can tell me? What can I do? Is there a job for me to accomplish that?I really want to start a new life. Suggestions/advice?
Your not alone in your desire to travel. The good news is you are doing this at a relative young age, and can always come back to your career. You may even decide to do something else entirely.

There comes a question of money, do you have enough to travel then food, lodging, ect. Also a question of comfort, are you comfortable staying in hostels or small venue hotels? If so then, sit down and really think about the places you want to visit, and then do some research, look at the places where you can stay, and budget, budget, budget. Unfortunately the dollar is rather week in Europe and some places in Asia so you may want to consider other parts of the world.

Also do you own a home or condo? Think about exchanging your place with someone overseas who wants to visit and live in the states for a bit, but proceed with caution with this step.

If money is not as abundant as you would like at this present moment then consider becoming a flight attendant. While they do work, flight attendants get to see the world and they get to do it free or on the cheap. Call all the major airlines in your area and get info on their next trainee classes.

After being a flight attendant for a some years you can always keep it as a second career on the back burner only flying a number of times per year. I have a number of friends that do it and they love it. One was going to medical school and he wanted to switch in life. Now he is traveling internationally and loves it. You can also put in where you would like to be stationed NYC, LA, Miami, Atlanta, SF, where ever the airline has a hub.

Also consider teaching English in a foreign country, although this practice is more popular in eastern Europe and the far east as opposed to western Europe where many people already speak several languages. You should ask for lodging and expense budget.

Since you have a business degree you may also want to look into international business, but that would involve working with a global conglomerate where you can travel from country to country. You would probably have to specialize in something or another.

I would start putting feelers out there just to get the energy moving and be positive. Once you get clear on what you want have Faith/Belief that everything is working out your way, and trust me it will. I speak from experience.

Get clear about what you want, the end result and stick with it all the details will come. Create yourself a good life, you deserve it!I really want to start a new life. Suggestions/advice?
Join the military.
You could join the Merchant Marine or the Peace Corps.
The first answer is great! My husband is in the USN (navy) and so has my father and grandfather. My husband is only 24 and has already been to Scotland, Japan, Hawaii, Singapore, Guam, Italy, Burmuda, Spain, not to mention we've been stationed out of southern Georgia, Seattle, and now we're going to San Diego! He is never bored with his job and has made some great friends, and the benefits are wonderful, too! Talk to a recuiter. You'll start a new life while serving your great country, which is a feeling that's indescribable.
Do not join the military. What about the peace corps? You'll get to travel, plus you will get to really give back to the world in a positive way. Plus it so anti-corportate America. Or if you have enough money saved, see if your job will allow a leave of absence. You could travel, maybe do volunteer work either here or abroad. Good luck - you really are living the American dream - you're young, why be stuck behind a desk - you are going to have the rest of your life to work.
Suicide is the best way.

NOT. Just kidding. You really can do anything you're a free person. Just set your mind to the things you want and in no time you'll see doing them.

  • Advice for getting a new car with bad credit?

What are some steps i need to take to purchase a used car i need a new car but my credit is shot any advice would be great!

(besides the obvious of saving up for a big down payment)

is financing a bad idea?Advice for getting a new car with bad credit?
A co-signer would help somewhat and as for the rest...

Whether you buy a used car from a dealer, a co-worker, or a neighbor, follow these tips to learn as much as you can about the car:

Examine the car yourself using an inspection checklist. You can find a checklist in many of the magazine articles, books and Internet sites that deal with buying a used car.

Test drive the car under varied road conditions - on hills, highways, and in stop-and-go traffic.

Ask for the car's maintenance record. If the owner doesn't have copies, contact the dealership or repair shop where most of the work was done. They may share their files with you.

Talk to the previous owner, especially if the present owner is unfamiliar with the car's history.

Have the car inspected by a mechanic you hire.

You can find out a used car's history, which is a must if you're buying a used car that is not certified, by logging on to www.carfax.com.Advice for getting a new car with bad credit?
Getting a co-signer would probably be your best bet unless you want to get slapped on with a sky high interest rate. See what the dealership is willing to offer you first and then shop around to see if you can find other financial institutions who are willing to offer you a lower interest rate.
    The truth?

Don't do it. Your narcissistic desire for a new car is what got you in this position. Get your credit cleaned up and learn to manage money a little better. Go ahead and drive a used car, it won't kill you.

You're going to pay ridiculously high interest rates for up to five years, wind up paying at least five times what the car would cost you cash, and here's the part that really sucks - these payments will OWN you.

Buy something small, like a $500 stereo, on credit, use 6 or 8 such small purchases over the next 3 years to rebuild your credit score.
You're looking at using a sub-prime or secondary finance comany to carry your loan. Most dealerships have access to them, and the large ones have the best chance to get your app approved (volume).

But you will have to follow some rules to get it (you're considered high-risk, and can't just get whatever you want). The car can only be few years old, only so many miles, only have a price cap. A general example would be 04 or newer with less than 50,000 miles for under $10,000. Doesn't give you much to play with...a typical sub-prime car is a base model Malibu, Grand Am, or Taurus (nothing exciting)

You will also need to provide Proof of Income, Proof of Residence, Proof of Insurance, 10-20% Down Payment...and you may need to wait a few days before you can take the car home while everything processes.

Another option is the Buy-Here-Pay-Here lot...kinda seedy, so-so quality cars, phone-book sized applications, sometimes weekly payments, huge down payments (sometimes 50-75% of the wholesale value of the car), quick repos (some will repo after only 1 late payment)...but you will get a car. They don't use banks and some don't even check credit reports, so they kinda have a large amount of leverage against you...but sometimes it is the only option.

Any advice for a new African Grey owner?

I recently adopted my uncle's African Grey, BaeBae. My uncle has lung cancer and can't take care of him any longer. I'm a huge animal person, so I'm loving having this new guy around! I've never had a bird though... so I'm hoping someone on here could give me a few tips.

I think because of the change he's a little stressed. He's plucked out a bunch of feathers. I read that if you give them showers it helps. I gave him one yesterday, which he seemed to enjoy, but he's still pulcking. Anyone know of a way to help him out?Any advice for a new African Grey owner?
It is wonderful that you are caring for him. Right now he is plucking to relieve the stress he feels about losing his companion/home, and moving to a new one.

Just show him that he can trust you - clean food and water daily, clean cage, toys to play with and most of all your companionship. Just sitting in the same room and talking to him can help relieve some of it. My Greys and I enjoy watching Food Network together.

There are great books and websites that can offer more advice. They are my Parrot Bibles.Any advice for a new African Grey owner?
I didn't get to respond in time - I have a African grey: You need to feed him fruits and veggies - DAILY. Frozen veggies are fine - just heat up. Oatmeal, grains, whole grain sugar free cereal - just remember that seeds should be smallest part of his diet

he is plucking his feathers out of stress and bieng bored they need a lot of attention they are very people oriented and alot like small children

if he keeps plucking his feathers take him to a vet who is familiar with birds because he will pluck all of them out and look like a chicken.

He probable is very stressed out and sad. African Greys are very sensitive and he is probable missing your uncle. Make sure he has lots of toys to keep him busy and active. Baths should help if his skin is dry. Just show him lots of love and attention and you will be rewarded. It may take some time but it is so worth it. Also you can take him to the vet and have him examined, sometime when they pick it is because they are sick, they can also give him a shot that lasts a month and it relaxes them and they won't pick. Good luck! They are great!
I think all the above is right! My parrot was plucking her feathers a while back.......mostly her wing feathers, I took to her to an avarian vet, she had swollowed a little piece of metal, I am not saying that is the case with your bird, but if the plucking persists I would have him checked out by a vet, just in case.

One typ the vet gave me...let the bird be near when you are having your meals. let it him have some titbits from you while you are eating, this is supposed to make them feel more part of the family. Good luck
I am glad to know that your Uncle's companion is getting a great home. The stress will eventually even out. The bird is mourning the loss of his friend, Toys are always needed for birds. I like to buy baby toys, some of the teething things are great for birds to chew on. I also have the ';chains'; hanging from the top of my conure's cage, and he loves to play with them. Good luck with your new friend. Sounds like BaeBae will have a great place to live.
you just have to try help minimilise the stress. Does your uncle have anything that he use to give to the bird like a blanket or a specific toy? your bird will de-stress if he has familiar things and smells around him. Make sure that the bird is in a comfortable place away from loud noises such as washing machines etc. and away from other pets, sunlight, direct heat and away from other people. This will help him settle in and feel more secure in his new environment. It may take a few days for him to stop plucking at himself, ifit carries on for over a week more then i would take him to the vets and get it checked out as it could be self harm. Just make sure that everything is as much the same as it can be. hopes this helps!
hi my advise is that he is stressing because he has had to leave his owner so i would spend as much time as i can with him has he got toys in there with him and does he come out of his cage if not i would get him out and buy some toys for him but spend time with him so he can trust you once he knows you he will be fine just give him time hope this helps and good luck from tracie

Advice on new Shocks / Struts for my firebird / trans am?

Typically I just get whatever is cheapest. But for this I want to get a better product.

What shocks or struts are good? What brands? On ebay I see Bilstein and Gabriel brands.

What is monotube design vs twin tube design?

Do I also need to replace the mounts? What about Sway links?Advice on new Shocks / Struts for my firebird / trans am?
Now when it comes to shocks buy a brand name such as Bilstein, KYB, Koni or any other performance brand if u plan to keep your car a long time. Please don't go for the gabriels since on autozone sells then and I have no idea how well they work. Had a friend once use them and was very dissatisfied with them.

What would you advice to Elect President on New Year day ?

I am sure he would love to receive public opinions and correct him self to be an effective, respectable , good, powerful President , who can bring back our lost images and respect all over the world too.

Advice to diffuse financial crisis, improvement employment market, prevent fraud, bring back troops, stop small wars , get medical aid and whatever he promised to us .

HE IS A GOOD GUY - HE BRINGS HOPE FOR NEW LIFE. TO DAY.

GOOD LUCKWhat would you advice to Elect President on New Year day ?
I would tell him to give more finances to state education. Then people would be able to form a proper question and possibly a sentence or two.

I would tell him to start the draft back up. I mean America has 144,128,690 Americans that are able to serve and only 1,500,000 Americans with enough balls to serve our country and ensure the freedom and democracy that the country stands for. What would you advice to Elect President on New Year day ?
I would advise him to admit that he's in over his head, and a recycling of the Clinton Administration in conjunction with a DEMOCRAT controlled legislature is the last thing this nation needs.

After that he should step down and call upon the country to support an experienced leader in a White House with a bipartisan makeup, and ask someone like Newt Gingrich to step in as President with Biden as VP.

That's the kind of compromise that WORKS for this nation. What we will see after mid-January will NOT WORK, and will take us lower and lower until we finally wake up.
Dear mr. President, make sure you rule the country subject to the guidance of God.. No man on earth has the ability to fix this world's problems. Who can make a collective mind change in this country?

No matter how hard you try, if congress opposes you, nothing will happen. Put God and his wisdom first then your abilities will shine.

    Good luck Mr. president
he should remember his allies just like Bush did He should visit Poland and remember that Polish people and the Polish goverment helped USA and will try to help USA every time its good to have small allies that can enter places the USA Cannot Poland helped the USA negotiate with China back in Regan administration and Polish mediators can still be useful USA inteligence should coperate with the Polish inteligence as we often posses information that might be usefull for the US
I would suggest to back away from any agenda, the liberals try to bring to the table. Continue with the tax breaks, don't raise any taxes. Don't cut military spending...

Socialisim will only run America... No socialized medicine!!!

Don't screw things up like Clinton did!
he better make a ';Change'; or else he's going to have some pretty mad Americans on his hands. Also continue with the border fence. Hey, they already started and have some sections almost finished. Plus, it's providing jobs for people right now.
I would tell him to do the best thing he can for our Country... And that would be to back down from office. He is a liar and a deceiver. He wasn't even born in America. There is no reason that he should have the power to run a country. End of story.
Spend more federal money on public education if this question is any indication.
Please for Gods sake, do yourself, your family and your Nation a good service and quit now.
Govern from the center, don't cave in to far left or far right extremists.
Admit he is not up to the job and resign
    DUCK MUTHA SCRATCHA!
    Quit
just do what he said he would

Any advice on a new job, i start tomorrow!?

im so excited! its a dream job and i was just wondering if anyone had some ways to start it out right.Any advice on a new job, i start tomorrow!?
Be friendly - everyone is nervous the first day - it's so awkward! Ask good questions, make eye contact, etc.

Help! I need a new haircut for school which is starting next week and I need advice?

Ok, so I have extremely thick hair which also frizzes up occasionally. It is also a curly voluminous mess. I have a longish face, so help! What kind of haircut should I get?Help! I need a new haircut for school which is starting next week and I need advice?
Well you shouldn't get bangs- thick hair with bangs is harder to manage without straightening. You can ask your hairdresser to get it thin out a bit so it is easier to manage. I do this with my thick hair and it makes my hair waaayyy lighter. For your hair type you shouldn't get it too short or it would emphasize the volume, so aim for a cut around shoulder length! I hope this helped, Good luck :)Help! I need a new haircut for school which is starting next week and I need advice?
    you should try this one:

    http://trendyshorthairstyles.files.wordp鈥?/a>
If you want something new, you can always try a fringe (if you havent got one) Maybe a couple of layers to frame your face...

Other than that I don't know

    I hope I helped :D

    x
If you have a long face, straight bangs would work well. Ask your hairdresser to maybe thin out your hair if you don't want it to be frizzy.

  • I need legal advice about child protective services in Binghamton New York?

Does anyone know what legal advice is available for the mishandling of a case by a county run agency such as CPS? What law does it fall under so I can obtain a lawyer? I really feel that this agency is not doing their job correctly and are very unjust in their accusations they are claiming and there is proof that they claim to not have when I know for a fact they do. I have cooperated in the investigation up to this point and now it is getting way out of hand. I need a lawyer to protect me and my family from these people. Thank you!I need legal advice about child protective services in Binghamton New York?
You can try googling CPS plus the name of your state to get your CPS website. It should tell you the definitions for abuse and neglect in your state. There also may be a place to complain about treatment.

Here is a website that may help with some aspects of the legal problems: http://www.fightcps.com

We are decorating our new home. We have painted our walls in Dulux Perfectly Taupe. Need advice on carpet?

Have just bought a new home. We are not going to do much decor yet just paint the walls and change the carpets downstairs only as we will be doing it up properly in the next couple of years. We have chosen Dulux Perfectly Taupe for the walls in the living room but I am really unsure as to what shade of carpet will go and what colour settees. Any advice will be gratefully received. We are decorating our new home. We have painted our walls in Dulux Perfectly Taupe. Need advice on carpet?
Find a neutral carpet because paint color is way cheaper to change in the future than carpet is. My suggestions are light brown, cream, green, gray, blueish gray.

We just painted our living room and dining room and are getting new carpet. Our paint colors are pinkish-salmon on one wall, medium-dark gray on two walls, purplish-taupe on 3 walls. We chose a light-medium grayish-brown medium-long Frieze carpet. Sort've like a shag but a little shorter and thicker. The carpet hasn't arrived yet, but I think it will look nice. The carpet will go in the living room, the dining room has birch hardwood floors. We are decorating our new home. We have painted our walls in Dulux Perfectly Taupe. Need advice on carpet?
I re-carpeted my home several yrs ago I found it best to go with neutral colors like browns with light black swirls they hold up best to traffic as well as spills ,stay away from light colors such as biege, white, cream, and gray they might look nice but within a short period of time you'll notice small black dots appearing in the carpet and impossible to get rid of
I always get an oatmeal berber with several shades of tan, cream and brown. It goes with everything and shows almost nothing (two cats). Take a painted board to the carpet store to match the taupe in the walls.
Taupe will go with about anything, good choice. My suggestion would be to find a sofa ect. in the color you like (since you'll be able to keep it when you change everything in two years, and pick a color from that for the sofa. That way you won't have to buy a new sofa and carpet when you change everything out, just repaint) Much cheaper than rebuying everything again.

Does anyone have advice on a new religion?

I was not raised with religion, and in college came to the intellectual decision that there is no god. I am however spiritual. I believe that all living things (trees, bugs, flowers...etc) have a spirit. I try to lead a good, moral life, but I wish I had more of an ';organized'; belief system to guide me. My life is good, but I feel like I am just wandering through it with no real purpose.Does anyone have advice on a new religion?
Shinto, or some Native American religions with animist doctrines.Does anyone have advice on a new religion?
';Happy are those who are conscious of

their spiritual need, since the kingdom of

    the heavens belongs to them.';

';Happy are the pure in heart, since they

will see God.'; ~ Matthew 5:3,8

You can find a true purpose in life through studying the Holy Bible. It has been the foremost spiritual guild for over three millenniums.

It's astounding that you don't believe in God, but yet spiritual and believe that all living things have a spirit. Don't you believe there is a Father Spirit who imparts life to all living creatures?

Yahweh, the God of the Hebrews, credits Himself for doing just that. The Holy Bible is His inspired instructions for us to find purpose and live a meaningful life to the betterment of all around us.

Call on Yahweh in prayer, and continue living a moral life and He will send a messenger in which way to go.
why do you need an organized religion to tell you how to live your life? you already have a good set of values and morals. a so called church will corrupt that for their own gain . be it money or control. God will allways be there for you. He is listening and watching. He gave you one thing that an organized religion will take away from you, and that is freedom to choose. Go on, live your life, try not to live by someone elses standards.
oh please look into wicca, which has a big focus on nature and the spiritual value of everything! you will find new friends and maybe new and fulfilling answers to what you are looking for! Check out some books from the library on the subject and see, why not?
The only advice I can give you is to read the book of Acts in the Bible and pray to receive the Holy Spirit. God is very real. There is no spirituality without God.
make it into ur own religion. if that is what u truely believe and it isnt classified as any other religion. maybe it will make it big!
There is no purpose in this life.

Just live it how you want to live it so that you may be satisfied when you die.
    wiccan
that is Buddhism get your self a little bhudda
try a good TRinity church like Methodist or Lutheran....our purpose here is to repent and prepare for the next life....pray for Salvation.....plants live but they dont have the spirit of God....some humans do!!

Why do new mothers get so mad when people give their advice?

I was the same way when I was pregnant and after I had my baby. I would get so mad when people would give me advice about how to do things. I would get so stubborn and get mad. Now I look back and a lot of those suggestions were very good suggestions. After I got over my stubborness, I used those suggestions and they work really well. Why do we act like that though? Why do new mothers get so mad when people give their advice?
Everyone wants to be a great parent and we're all terrified that we won't be. We get defencive when someone tries to give advice because we feel like we're being attacked even though people are just trying to be helpful and pass on their experience. Why do new mothers get so mad when people give their advice?
i guess it is because when we were little we hated it for ex: don't eat that you'll get sick so we would eat it then get sick and wish we would have listened we just thought we had all the answers and hated it when people would tell us what to do i know when i became a mother for the first time i actually listened to the advise of other mothers and chose which one might actually work heck i still do
I think it is because once you get confident enough to even go out into the world to show off you baby, people are quick to tell you what they think you are doing wrong.I have a 6 month old and I hate it when people tell me what I SHOULD DO with a child I carried for 9 months and they just met for 9 minutes! No child is the same, and frankly it is no one elses business.
lol,,, i done the same thing and then once anyone had a baby drove them mad with advice....

in my case everyone was giving me advice all the time, most of it contradicting with another persons, everyone thinks they are a expert and everyone thinks they know everything, it does get a bit of a pain when everyones on your case telling you what is right, when all you want people to do is leave you alone and let you get on with it, perhaps if people waited to someone asked for advice rather than pushing it then we wouldn't get the hump about it

having said all that i still do it to other people!!!
Even though they are ';suggestions'; we feel like we are being told what to do. That and trying to adjust to a new way of life in our own way, on our own terms and time. You are right though, much of the advice was useful, just given at the wrong time.
it probably has something to do with how new mothers already question themselves and feel that they arent doing things right/good enough. and when someone gives advice we look at it as is it that ovbious im not doing it right?!?
Because you want to come up with the solutions for yourself.

Some things my mother and mother-in-law suggested wasn't right......it was right 30 years OK....but some of those things had changed.

When my daughter has her first child....I'll give advice when and if I'm asked.
we all ahve a fantasy of how we will do thing so much better than anyone else. thank god this phase doesnt last long. Then I think it gets replaced with I've had so many kids now that I totally know what I'm doing and I think that's when we grow into really bonding and knowing our child/ren that we become mom.
Because while others may know from experience, as a new mom, we're not perfect but we'd certainly like to try things out and learn on our own. And I also remember getting VERY upset with a family member of mine because when my newborn was crying she took him and insisted she knew what was wrong with him. She took off his clothes, his diaper, tried burping him and I just took him away from her and said the reason he was freaking out was because there was a housefull of people he'd never seen before. He was stressed out from being held and around loud people.

Advice is one thing, taking over is another. And there's a very fine line in between.
I think its because we all want to be good mothers and don't like the idea of people telling us what to do like we're stupid. Also we get so much of it that we're sick of hearing about it and parenting is a lot different now than when our grandparents were raising children.
Because you are already feeling overwhelmed and insecure enough and you don't need other people pointing it out to you by giving unsolicited advice.

Honestly, the only advice I ever took was my pediatrician's or the advice I actively sought. And it hasn't seemed to hurt my son yet. He's a great kid at 16.
I think personally new mum's get mad because they want to learn from their own mistakes rather than be told by someone else about the mistakes of other people. I hated getting told what to do with my baby my oldest is 13(nearly)and my youngest is 1 and people still tried to tell me wot do to with my daughter
'advice' is too great a word.(I do really fear to use it when I do not know who the beneficiary is and how he /she will use /interpret it! But if you feel happy then good -no worry ; must be one amongst the happiest being!
I think it's because everyone has different views on how to raise children. For example, some of my relatives do things that I would NEVER do, yet were trying to push their beliefs on my husband and me. I think a new mother is also nervous and unsure about how she's doing enough without people telling her how to do things; it just makes her more self - conscious. The rule of thumb is that unless the parent is doing something that could cause serious bodily harm/death to the child, well - meaning people should bite their tongues and only give advice when asked for it. Trust me, there have been times when I've wanted to ';share'; some advice, but I keep quiet because I know it might be taken poorly.

Im going to OZ in the new year i was recommended to pay for Advice before going to the visa Bureau ?

i was recommended by a website online to pay for visa advice before applying for my visa abroad to Australia from London (im a British citizen....) Im 29 so getting a years working holiday visa wont be a problem but i want to stay a bit longer. Has anyone paid for such advice ? can you guys recommend anyone ?Im going to OZ in the new year i was recommended to pay for Advice before going to the visa Bureau ?
There is no need to pay for visa advice if you just follow the procedures of the Australian government websites concerning working holiday visa procedures. Forget about stupid commercial websites being promoted here.

If you plan to go to Australia in the next year [allegedly being 30 then] you cannot apply for a second Working Holiday Visa even if you have done three months [88 days] of specified work since you would not meet the age prerequisites any longer.

Whatever you do, don't pay for any advice! You simply don't need to do so, and stay away from sites such as workpermit which are fronts for fee charging companies.

Get your Working Holiday visa from the official government site on which you'll pay 拢115 and which gives you 100% accurate and up to date information on how the visa works and exactly what's needed to qualify you for a second WHV if you want to stay a bit longer.

    http://www.immi.gov.au/visitors/working-鈥?/a>

As you're 29 now, be aware that you must apply for your second WHV before you turn 31, so you won't be able to put off coming on your first one for much longer.

If you for some reason don't end up qualifying for a second WHV, it will be very difficult indeed to stay any longer than the 12 months of your first WHV if you wish to work. You will only be able to do so if you can find an employer to sponsor you for a Temporary Business (Long Stay) - Standard Business Sponsorship (Subclass 457) visa and that won't be easy to do. You must have qualifications and experience in an eligible occupation and the employer must be eligible and willing to go to the considerable expense and jump through the many hoops required to be a sponsor.

VisaFirst and other similar companies charge for information and guidance that you can get for nothing at any of the many backpacker sites such as http://www.bugaustralia.com/essentials/
you can not pay to stay longer, if you do 3 months seasonal work on your 1st working holiday visa you can apply for a second

do not use the visa bureau, get your visa from the australian website

you must apply for the 2nd visa before you turn 31 as you will no longer be eligible
OOh Ohh! I have your answer. I went to visafirst.com and it was so easy! I got a 12-month working holiday visa, and you just pay for the visa (I think it was 3 hundred and some canadian dollars.. Not sure how that translates into pounds) Also they organize everything else for you like a bank account, a tax number, a mobile phone number, and a bunch of other stuff you wouldnt even think about getting for yourself! And if you want to stay for a little longer, you have the option to apply for a 2nd year visa as long as you work a couple of months in Agriculture during your first year in Australia. as far as advice, you can ask the Visa First staff anything you like via email or phone, they are there to answer your questions anytime from the time you apply for the visa right through your whole preparation for the trip, and your entire stay in the country.

Is it easy to move to a new town+some advice?

I am possibly moving to a new town in Winter.Right now i'm in middle school, but the grade i'm going into I'll be in high school(their high school is grades 7-12)

    I also live in a city/town with a population of 30,000

The one i'll be moving to is not only a small town (population of about 7,000) but is also halfway across the country from my current school.

Will it be easy to make such a transition and do you have any advice for me?

thanks :)Is it easy to move to a new town+some advice?
The transition will be as easy as you make it. Since you're going in mid-semester, you might have to take some classes to make up the differences. Make sure your parents get the transcripts of your grades before you move. Also remind them that you will have to get a flu shot before you go. Schools are getting really protective of their students.

  • Any advice to help my 2 cats with moving and settling them into our new home?

We are going to be moving soon.

I wonder if anyone has some advice as to help them with the stress of moving (strangers coming in and out of flat, noise and choas etc) and settling them into our new home?

They are both indoor catsAny advice to help my 2 cats with moving and settling them into our new home?
If they're indoor cats, you shouldn't have too much to worry about, so long as they don't find a way outside. You might want to be sure they are microchipped, just in case. Maybe start them off in a small bathroom or bedroom, with a few of their favorite blankets and toys to keep them calm and happy?Any advice to help my 2 cats with moving and settling them into our new home?
    Hi there,

I have 9 cats (rescued im not mad cat lady lol ), but i have moved twice recently and it does stress them quite a bit. However the good news is they will come round quickly. When you are moving, try and keep one room of your new home free to keep the cats in when your stuff is being moved in. Take your cats in 1st, before removal men start off loading and lock them in that room until all the noise has stopped and strangers are gone. Put a blanket/duvet/jumper or anything with your or your partners smell on, in the room with them. Any toys or scratch posts beds etc should also be put in the room with them. I also put a cardboard box in the room, with a little hole only they can slip into, which worked wonders as they just hid through all the noise. Once everyone goes, go in with a treat, n use your 'mamma voice', ( i know you'll have 1 lol), and they will start to come out to investigate. Once they start having a look around and see and smell all your stuff they will start to chill.

Good luck, and hope the move goes well for you, and your lil furry 1s!
Well they may not like the noise so put them in a room with a food bowl and a water bowl and a litter tray whilst you are moving things in. When they are inside they need to gert used to the house...when we moved, one of my cats sat in a corner and wouldnt move...until she needed the toilet and was getting hungry. They need to learn their boundries of where they are allowed and where they are not...but let them see the whole house before so they can get used to it and then pick them up and take them out so they know that they are not allowed...then keep this up until they know that they are not allowed!

Hope this helps and good luck with moving house!

    x]
Get some of those Feliway diffusers. It puts off a scent that really calms them down and mellows them. When we moved, we put about 6 around the house. They really worked. They aren't cheap though.
Keep them both in a closed room, with their litter tray, until all activety has ceased.

I want to start a new life, would you give me your advice?

I went through some very hard times, I lost the people I loved and my self respect. Now I want to start a new life and forget about everything, and I think summer is the perfect time for this.

I want to get new friends, a new boyfriend and be a more confident person. Did you have a similar experience? Could you help me?

Thanks.I want to start a new life, would you give me your advice?
The easiest way to have a new life is to move in a completely new area where you know no one. Just keep in mind, the past will eventually catch up with you. And unfortunately you will eventually have to deal with it. Good luck.I want to start a new life, would you give me your advice?
Think about the one thing you dislike the most in your life that you know can be changed %26amp; start there. Then keep picking them off one at a time %26amp; positive things will keep happening. Think bad, bad's what you get. Keep moving forward, looking back slows you down!
Yes I do have the same experience i ran away from cali and moved to arkansas tell me thats not a long ride!! anways i learned that you can move make a new life and start a new family i am now 34 and when i moved i was 25 i was scared about what would happen but it turned out fin with my life lol
Running away or relocating can only work if you are sure you can leave the past behind. If you do move, be sure you do not take any old habits or ';baggage'; with you! Sometimes a change of a job or school can be what you need and can lead to new friends, etc.
Someone very dear to me had a similar situation. She had an absolutely terrible few years, wrong crowd, drugs, lost her fiancee in a car crash (alcohol involved), and finally enough was enough. She moved back with her parents for a short while, to regroup her thoughts, then moved 800 miles away from her hometown. She had a relative there, so she knew if worse came to worse she could sleep on the couch until she was situated. Then she went back to school, new job, new friends, etc. It took a couple of years, but things are going pretty good now, and her life is definitely getting better and better.

If you have an acquaintance or a relative in a town that you're interested in moving to, that could be a huge help. (Could sleep on their couch until you find a job). It can be done, and I wish you the very best!
To me the easiest solution is a change of scenery... a brand new place, new faces, new home, new friends . . . you can start from new and be whatever you want to be, leave the past behind you.

Anyone got advice for a new dog(great pyranese and lab mix) owner?

Okay so this is my first dog and im 27 years old I want to take great care of him. He is 2 and a half. Id like advice on flea care, his coat, diet and exercise.Anyone got advice for a new dog(great pyranese and lab mix) owner?
This big, happy dog was developed in the Pyrenees Mountains between France and Spain to guard the flocks and protect the homes of the shepherd and his family. Here the big dog fearlessly faced wolves and bears and alerted his family to bandits.

Once he left the mountains, the Pyr became a favorite in the French courts. The dog's prowess as a guard was often a topic of conversation.

The Great Pyrenees is a large, elegant dog with a regal expression. Males are 27-32 inches tall at the withers and weigh about 100 pounds; females are somewhat smaller and lighter.

The Pyr is not a white Newfoundland .

The Pyr body has a strong neck, level back, moderately broad chest, broad back and loin, and long plumed tail. The tail can be carried low when the dog is at rest and over the back when the dog is alert. The double dewclaws is a characteristic of the breed,.

The Pyr coat is thick and makes the dog look heavier than it is.

THE PYRANESE SHEDS! A LOT!! Those who cannot abide the thought of tufts of white hair floating through the house twice a year should consider another breed. On the other hand, those who fancy exotic knit accessories may find the Pyr right up their alley. The dog's fine undercoat can be collected when shed and spun into yarn used to make sweaters, scarves, afghans, and other items.

THE PYRENEES COAT MUST BE KEPT FREE OF MATS, TATS, AND TANGLES, whether the hair will remain on the dog or be collected for spinning. The undercoat tangles into felted mats that can hold dirt and cause painful hot spots on the skin

A THOROUGH WEEKLY BRUSHING IS NECESSARY to keep the coat in top condition.

Owners should be particularly on the alert for fleas. If these pesky critters get established in the heavy Pyr coat, they can be difficult to eliminate. As thick and plush as the coat is, the GREAT PYRENEES SHOULD NOTbe shaved in the summer; instead he should be given a shady spot and plenty of fresh water.

The Vet can put the dog oh a good flea PREVENTATIVE, such as Frontline Plus, or Advantix, but a PREVENTATIVE must be used year round as flea soaps and sprays only kill what they come in contact with Preventatives kill the eggs and nesting larvae on the dog. Keeping the dog's outside area dusted with ';Sevin'; insecticide dust will eliminate a lot of the problems of the dog getting fleas from outside

Be sure to keep the dog up to date on all it's shots, and keep it on an active ';heartworm'; program.

The Pyr needs a fenced yard with a visible barrier to remind him to stay home. Without that barrier, he will consider the world to be his territory and think he has to guard it all. He should not be tied out regularly, for tying can cause frustration that leads to aggression.

Pyr puppies grow rapidly and reach almost adult size before they are a year old. They should be well-socialized to other dogs, trained to walk on a leash, and taught basic good manners before they get too big to handle.

He should be kept on a stable diet of a good brand (not Purina) of Kibble. Iams and Eukanuba are great foods that are not pricey. There are some other foods that are excellent, too, but they get pretty pricey with a dog the size of a Pyr.

As with other guardian breeds, motivational training works best with the Great Pyrenees. The dog does not do well with harsh corrections or repetitive training. The breed's absence from the obedience ring is a testimony to its independence, not a comment on its intelligence. As bored as the dog gets with repetitive obedience, it takes readily to pulling a cart, patrolling the homestead perimeter, and guarding the children.

Like other large breeds, the Pyr is susceptible to hip dysplasia. The breed is also subject to Factor XI deficiency, a bleeding disorder; bloat; heat stroke; lameness; and bone cancer. His low metabolism makes him sensitive to anesthesia, a condition that must be taken into effect whenever surgery is planned.

Buyers should consider the temperament as well as the health of the parent dogs when looking for a Pyr puppy. The well-bred adult Pyr is confident, gentle, and affectionate to his family, territorial about his home and flocks, and patient and tolerant. Extreme shyness, nervousness, or aggression to humans are serious faults in the breed and serious detriments in a family pet.

The Pyr is also strong-willed and independent, characteristics that do not make him the best pet for families unaccustomed to dealing with big dogs. Great Pyrenees rescue groups are often inundated with dogs that were purchased without understanding of the size, independence, and hairiness of the breed. Families should look for dogs bred as pets; the working stock Great Pyrenees may be too independent for inexperienced owners to handle and train. However, once the Pyr grabs your heart, you may want another. If this is the case, look for a puppy or rescue dog of the opposite sex; males and females may not get along well with members of their own sex. NEUTERING THE DOG will take care of a lot of territorial problems and make the dog much easier to handle.Anyone got advice for a new dog(great pyranese and lab mix) owner?
Other than taking him to the vet yearly----

For flea care- I like monthly Frontline Plus for prevention. It can be a little expensive, but well worth it.

For his coat- Daily brushing is ideal if he has longer hair, it can get matted up pretty easily. You would want to use a good slicker brush and/or de-shedding tool. ( I like the FUR-minator you can get it at PetSmart). You might consider also taking him to a groomer once a month to get him all pretty and de-shedded, And boy, do they shed!

Diet/exercise- Labs are notorious for overeating and being under-exercised. They have huge appetites, but how much you feed depends on the type of food and level of exercise you are willing to give. Iams and Purina are my favorite brands. (read the labels for a good amount to feed, but note they might tell you to feed a little more because they want you to buy more of their food)Also, be easy on the treats. Your lab will act like he is hungry all the time, and will eat all day if you let him. I give my dogs canned green beans, one at a time for treats. They have no idea that they are good for them :) and carrots work well too. I recommend at the very least 2-3 brisk 30+ minute walks a day. They also love to swim and run, so if your family does a lot of that he will be happy. Taking him to a dog park to run and sprint and play for a good hour will release a lot of energy for him. If he is under-exercised he will most likely destroy your house and be a little too much to handle, or bark excessively like a lot of unemployed dogs tend to do.

You have adopted a great dog! As long as he can expel all that energy you will have so much fun with him! Good luck and I hope this helps.
You have already received some great advice. To have a happy healthy pet your dog needs to have regular exercise, good nutrition, regular grooming, good discipline and most important lots of love. You also need to find a good vet who will give you good advice and your dog good health care.Ask other dog owners in your area to find one they recommend.

I have had three dogs over the years and you learn from each one.If I was starting as a new owner I would do a lot more reading and research into the best feeding and training for my dog.

As far as training is concerned a well trained dog is a much happier dog and you will be a relaxed owner with a dog you can really trust.Look for some good dog training books in your local library.

As far as diet is concerned I urge you to research this as well. I fed all my dogs commercial food until my last dog developed cancer. After much research I changed to a fresh raw meat and vegetable diet. My dog regained her health and in her latter years had a much healthier shiny coat than ever before.

Have you seen this http://tinyurl.com/q4wkzj. May give you a few ideas to think about.
ok well lets break this up

---diet and exercise:: well you should take your dog out about 3 times a day for about 30 minutes so it can burn off some energy. otherwise ur dog will be destructive. For food you should feed it both kibble and wet (canned) food. try mixing both of them. For the food make sure that there is barely or no corn in there. (Look in the ingredients section, they are listed from most to least so the closer the ingredient is to the beginning she more of it that it has)

---flea care::i recommend you to use Frontline Plus because it does a very good job

---Coat:: bath at least 1-2 times a month and i recommend you to take it to a professional groomer at least once every 2-3 months

    hope this helps

My new chinchilla, any advice from owners?

So, I got a chinchilla yesterday. I also got a book that I've been reading on how to take care of them and all that.

Can anyone offer any other advice on how to keep my new critter happy and healthy? My new chinchilla, any advice from owners?
Yeah, they need chew toys or their teeth will get too long. Don't get them wet. :)

Has anyone got any tips or advice how I can get my cats to get along, or accept my new puppy?

I've had my labrador puppy for 5 weeks now and my cats aged 8 and 3 havent come down stairs and have resorted to toileting up there- so we've had to put a litter tray. ALthough they always used to go outside!Has anyone got any tips or advice how I can get my cats to get along, or accept my new puppy?
You'll have to be harsh I'm afraid, Bring your cats down and shut off access to the stairs. By putting a tray upstairs you are giving them more excuse not to come down. I got a Bassett hound and I have 3 cats, they spent a while hiding up stairs but gradually started to come down sniff and run back up, gradually they over came their fear and now they all play with him (and scratch him when he's being too rough, he's 12 months now), I'm afraid you need to force them to have contact with the dog (not in the same room just on the same level where they can still escape him if they need to eg on a higher surface etc or another room, behind the sofa etc).

They will accept him it's just a matter of time.Has anyone got any tips or advice how I can get my cats to get along, or accept my new puppy?
find a vet box and put the puppy in it. cats like to be in charge and if your labrador seems like the underdog (pun not intended), they will feel more comfortable. slowly but surely they will think they're in charge and will 'allow' ur dog to be in the same room as them and soon grow to be perfectly comfortable with him.

    hope this helps!!
make them socialise - put them in one room and u refaree.

the pup will try to sniff the cats and get a scratched nose then they should be fine.

make it clear neither is alowed to be agressive.
Time, patience's, don't force the issue.. They may never accept the pup, you will have to feel what is right and go from there.

If you can, take ya pup upstairs on the lead or in ya arms and not make eye contact with the cats don't push the pup towards to cats. Sit on the bed, look out the window only for really short bursts, even just walk round the room and then out.. Keep ya pup from looking at the cats and if you can if the pup stays calm stroke the cats whilst holding pup, try not to get it in ya mind that it's not going to work or get worked up if the cats run, Rome wasn't built in a day.. One thing that is really important is if ya pup goes crazy with them or chases or is just inquisitive don't use and voice control just remove pup from situation..

    It will work in time.

    Good luck.
this will take alot of patients and may be an agornising process. don't force them or rush into it. it needs to be on your pets terms not yours. start to introduce them gradually. only for 10 minutes at a time then seperate them. start by having them in seperate areas so they feel safe, possibly through glass or have the puppy in a pen n let the cats examine it from a distance..... they have to feel safe. even if you have the cat up high on a cupboard just so they can get an idea of the puppies intentions. give all the pets equal attention and treats to relax them. keep doing this. they will build their confidence and trust. lengthen the amount of time gradually.... even if they are in the same room for an hour then its a good sign. most cat books have information on introducing pets. i advise you read up on the best ways and choose one that will fit to your life style.

try this website out for tips: http://cats.about.com/cs/catmanagement10鈥?/a>
put them all in the same room as you and show them equal love and affection, they may feel left out cos of the new arrival, it takes time, but it will work :)
Well 1st: get a dog wisper they will help u alot. but it cost thats all i can say :)

    Advice for buying new washer/dryer?

I'd love some advice in buying a new electric washer/dryer, am not especially fond of a front-load machine but saw a top-load washer w/ top load dryer with glass lids - kinda neat looking, but has anyone used them? I'd like a decent size machine, but not huge. I also prefer to buy from Lowe's although I'm not afraid to look elsewhere. thanks!!Advice for buying new washer/dryer?
Check ratings at consumerreports.org or pick up a Consumer Reports at the library.

The Kenmore appliances at Sears generally are very good.

Get one big enough to wash your bedding (e.g. comforter).

For a washer about all you need is ability to control:

+ water temperature (cold, warm, hot)

+ water level (low, med, high)

    + time

For a dryer a sensor that checks to humidity and buzzes when the clothes are dry is good.Advice for buying new washer/dryer?
I bought a washer and a gas dryer from best buy...they had a low price if you bought both, so thats what i did....i am kind of tall and i like the top loading washer, but the front loading dryer hurts my back when i bend down to put stuff in it, so i guess id say get the cheapest top loaders
buy them big.and buy them outright cash from a furniture store.and remember you are the boss.not them.you want what you want for $300 less.sounds crazy i know. But i just got a super capacity washer and dryer set from whirlpool.front loaders for $600.brand new with a 10 yr warentee.
I would buy a refurbished one. They are 1/3 the price and they are made better(Maytag) and are easier to fix.
    google
I would suggest. Getting the washer/dryer with the features you will use most. No need in paying the extra price for features you won't use. Also don't go by the looks. By the way Lowe's is a high place to buy appliances. I would suggest Sears.
We just bought a set from Lowe's and we went with a front loader for the following reasons.

    Top loader uses more water

larger load capacity in front loader ( washer and Dryer)

Ease in accessability on front loader

    Lower maintenace problems ---No agitator

    Now other info:

    Maytag was bought by westinghouse

LG (from 2 seperate stores and sales assoc) has problems with front seals. I'd steer clear of that .

The one's your talking about look good but no great shakes ...Read the info on the items and Compare.

We bought a Bosch because it's a name that is associated with quality. It was on sale and I got a rebate on delivery !

We were going to buy the Fridgedaire, also good.

By the way I have a top loader washer and dryer that are only a year old and I opted for front load in our new home.

    Sometime change is good!.
If you are near Newark NJ, call Paul's Appliances. They are the best!
We've owned various washers and driers in our twenty five years of marriage, get a cheap one. You will end up using cold wash most of the time. The drier, same thing, always using the same old one or two settings, all those other fancy settings never touched them. Trust me, my daughter has a fancy one, same thing, uses the same few settings, all the others are eye candy, a waste. What brand? Get a known name brand, if you get some odd ball name brand, don't be surprised it is hard to get it fixed when something goes wrong cause no one stocks the parts.

  • Looking for advice on new notebook?

I already have a relatively new high performance notebook. It has a 17'; screen, 1gb of memory, 80gb hard drive, 3.2 P4 processor w/HT. I am happy with it but the battery recently gave out.

Rather than fork over $150 for a new one, I thought I would just buy a new cheapie notebook which would be smaller, cooler, and easier to transport to and from classes/library/etc (college student).

If all I want to do is take notes in class, write papers, do some spreadsheeting and some basic software like that (and use my other notebook for everything else), and of course web browsing all while on the go, do you think an AMD Sempron 2.0 ghz and 256 memory is enough or do you suggest getting 512 of memory and/or a different processor?

I don't really care about updating to Windows Vista on this machine when it comes out.

Thanks for your input.Looking for advice on new notebook?
The notebook you propose for school work and surfing the net will be just fine. These activities do not require fancy processing and much memory. You know you are not going to play Doom 3 or COD2 on it, do movie editing, and so forth, so your expectations are realistic.

Word processing and web page rendering and other such ';basic'; processes won't be slow at all. My brother has a little old Aptiva with Windows 95 and woo woo 16 mb ram and 75 mHz cpu and it is amazing that it does what it does - typing and saving a document is just as fast, or nearly so, as on any computer.

But I don't think it is cost effective. One hundred fifty is a good deal less than what you would spend on a bottom shelf notebook, and you would just be duplicating what you already have, work tools wise.Looking for advice on new notebook?
well if its only web browsing, word processing or spreadsheets then yes the 2g sempron with 256 mem would be enough you won't notice a big difference just probably a few seconds slower when booting
Get the fastest one you can afford. You will be much happier. The slower speed will slow down your work.

You can always upgrade the RAM from Ebay or eCost http://www.ecost.com
You will not be happy. Too slow.
512MB of memory should be the minimum you should have. If it is a refurbished or inexpensive (like I'm using now) computer, install the additional memory yourself.Windows XP really dogs it at 256MB. But the cheaper laptops almost always have that or less. So, installing the additional memory yourself is cheaper in the long run. AMD is fine, Intel celeron's are usually found in the less expensive laptops. I just need my laptops for a home network, so I bought 2 Toshiba Satellites @$599 on sale at Best Buy. And boosted the memory on both to 1GB myself.
Get a Gig of ram. My experience with Windows says that it likes memory. I would go with a gig of ram and a slower processor over anything else. It's all about memory. And get an Intel. Intel has better Mobile chips IMO. It's not going to make a difference less you get a dual core.

That's what i would recommend. But if you are looking for cheap. Dump at least a gig of ram in it.

Who knows of any sites that have nice tools and advice for my new electrical business?

What is some advice you could give a fellow poet on ways find inspiration and new words?

I just wated to hear from other poets on how to further my work and spirit, inspiration, words, editing etc.

Thanking you all in advance for your help...What is some advice you could give a fellow poet on ways find inspiration and new words?
The inclination to respond to this humorously is exceeded only by my great esteem for you and your already inspiring muse. I think that asking yourself and others questions like this is the worst possible thing you could be doing. You are a swan asking the birds around you how to be a goose. You remind me of the centipede who was asked which foot he moved first. As a result, he could no longer walk.

I would be glad to assist you in enlisting the aid of two friends of mine, Mr. Webster and Mr. Roget. But don't worry about inspiration, it's not necessary to push a flowing river. What is some advice you could give a fellow poet on ways find inspiration and new words?
I am not positive I understand your question, but I shall answer it as though I do. What I sometimes do to find objects or feelings or really anything else to put onto my poems, is simply go outside and look at things, think about something that someone has said to you, watch someone and see what they are acting like, try to experience how they are feeling. Also, for words, if you take a dictionary and just flip through until you find a word you have never heard before or have heard but don`t know, see what it means and keep doing that `til you have a list of words you like the sound and meaning of, and write a poem using them. My friend once did that and her poem was amazing! I have never personally tried.
Although I think you already have beautiful words and work, this is what I do.

I usually learn new words by reading....reading anything. If I don't know what a word means I look it up.

As far as inspiration, mine comes through life. Either something I'm going through or something I see. Something I care about or believe.

As far as editing goes I used to be better at it than I am now...lol....sad huh. I went to school for writing, but I learned just as much on my own. There is all kinds of resources out there to help with that. In bookstores and on the web.

    Anyway...I love your work.

I love to see others who like to learn and improve themselves, I always try to too.

Hope this helps in some way:)
Dearest, I suggest you consult your nearest dictionary. As for new inspiration, it is the poet's job to get inspired. You are so open already, I do not see the trouble with this. Reach out, fling your energies to the atmosphere, look at everything in a different way...you will find inspiration.
Thinking of a realistic example; What about some thing desperate like a sex tryst or a suppressed sentiment, a lost love, some animated account of a relationship.

Any advice for getting a good serving job in New York City?

I plan on visiting Manhatten this weekend, and would like to get a serving job. I have 10+ years experience, and am a damn good server. Im not looking for the tip top of serving jobs, but a good one, that will afford me a decent living. I would like to be in Manhatten. Any advice?Any advice for getting a good serving job in New York City?
I would advise you to check out the touristy areas of town. I used to bartend in times square and if you can put up with the tourists constantly you can make some pretty good money. If you are visiting, check out some restaurants for yourself. You might even want to get yourself a Zagats guide for nyc. If you want to make a ';decent'; living get 2 serving jobs. living in nyc is damn expensive. even if you live in one of the boroughs or in nj you still have to commute so take that into consideration. good luck.Any advice for getting a good serving job in New York City?
    Hooker?
I am assuming that you are going to be doing more than ';visiting'; if you are looking to get a job in NYC. If you are planning on moving to New York there are a few things you need to consider before you go.

    1. Make sure that you have enough money to fund a job search. It will take time to land a serving job that is good enough to provide enough money to live in the city.

    2. Plan on tossing most of your 10 years in the biz out the window since most restaurants only want to consider NYC experience. It is really what I like to call ';metrocentric'; in that they like to act like only NYC experience counts. I think it is more of a way to try to weed out people who move to the city and soon find out they can't cut it and leave. It does cost money to train an employee and nobody wants to be the first one to give you a chance to prove yourself. Having said all that you can overcome it with tenacity.

    3. Unless you have super-model good looks I wouldn't plan on being able to land a job while visiting for the weekend because the good jobs often require 3 or more interviews before a job is offered. You need to understand how much compitition there is for every job. 50-100 applications for maybe 2 or 3 openings.

4.Now to your actual question. Some good places to start your search are The Village Voice and Craigslist as there are many jobs listed in these places. Publications like the New York Times do not list as many of these types of jobs. Having said this the problem with looking in these places are that everyone else is looking there too.

    5. Another way to go is to go to the neighborhood where you would like to work and pound the pavement looking for help wanted signs in smaller restaurants where you might get hired on the spot. This is how I got my first job in NYC, of course I had to take a second job in order to support myself because the place wasn't that busy. On the other hand you do get that ';NYC restaurant experience'; that everyone seems to require. You also will meet other people who are working in the business this way which will help you hear about other job openings.

6.There are certain restaurants chains in NYC that seem to always be hiring all the time and the reason for that is that they are very difficult places to work. Either the managment is horrible or very demanding of and demeaning to their employees. I know because I used to work for one of them known as B.R. Guest corp. they have many restaurants in the city and are very successful so they are always busy which is the good part. The bad part is that they treat you like you are totally expendable which...of course you are because there are hundreds of other just like you coming to the city everyday getting off the bus and looking for work.

I don't mean to sound negative about it but realistic. I know there are places that are good to their employees and are also good jobs but they are the exception and not the rule.

To get an inside view to the state of the restaurant business from an inside perspective go to www.shamelessrestaurants.com and read some of the posts written by NYC restaurant employees.

New York is a great place to live and work and I wish you luck because if you can make it there you can make....ah well you know.
just check craigslist, they are constantly looking for new servers. Also make sure you have the money to back up while your searching for a job. It may take a week to get one, thereafter it'll be another 5 days of training without pay, ya without pay.
Have you checked the local newspaper on-line?
I don't think that there is any place you can get a good serving job!!

I have a new team of people who I need to revitalise and motivate, any advice or ideas?

I have a group of four people who have worked together for the passed two years. They are stuck in a boring routine at the office and never see or work in the rest of the company. I want to motivate them and revitalise what we do as a department. But I'm worried they may be resistant to change. I've dealt with change management before but this is proving to be more difficult! Any advice or ideas are greatly welcomed!I have a new team of people who I need to revitalise and motivate, any advice or ideas?
Team day away from the office doing some sort of challenges such as a ';Get out of that'; type scenarios to build up different ways of thinking, then arrange to visit other departments and work with them for a day or so.

Without knowing the actual business type you are in cannot go further with ideas, but developing teamwork and different ways of thinking by challenges and rewards is a step forward.

There are plenty of these type challenges on the web under team challenges or go to a specialist company who provide these things if work are willing to pay. It does improve relationships and reduce stress etc.I have a new team of people who I need to revitalise and motivate, any advice or ideas?
Offer incentives - work outings, BBQ's or bonuses.
A few ideas: 1) Could you arrange for members of your team (one at a time) to shadow other people in the company. Then arrange for a feedback session where each person cascades info on what they've done. That would give them a better insight into how the company operates and how each part fits into the overall structure of the company.

    2) Organise some away-days. Often, time spent out of the office can be time well spent if you structure it properly - maybe get somone from another section of the company to join you.

    3) Where are you based? If in the UK or Western Europe I can suggest and vouch for the team-building benefits of a Murder Mystery dinner where members of the team get to be detectives. Only problem is, one team of just four isn't really an option. Could you link with other sections of the company perhaps to make it a more of an ';event';? Cost wise it'll depend on whether you take a plot ';off the peg';, partly customised, or have one especially written (the latter will be more expensive).
The best thing to do is ask them how they think things could be improved %26amp; what they would like to see happen around the office. Make sure they know they will be listened to %26amp; be taken seriously. People always feel more confident if they know they can raise issues %26amp; collectively find a way forward. In my experience they come up with perfect solutions %26amp; feel more valued. You have nothing to lose but everything to gain. Good luck. You sound like a good boss 'cos you have taken the time to approach a potentially diffcult situation.
set them goals, then have awards when the goals are reached?

  • What advice would you give a person thinking of moving to Auckland, New Zealand?

I am trying to get a Radio job working at a hip-hop station and need some advice on what are the women are like over in auckland. What are the beaches like as well. What advice would you give a person thinking of moving to Auckland, New Zealand?
Oh, my pretty much all of the people answering have never been to Auckland . Auckland is pretty tame. Its certainly safe to walk home in the night, maybe not south auckland but the rest is fine. Piha is an awesome beach, but if you want the best, go to Mt Maunganui (Tauranga). The women are awesome, theyre so friendly and I love going there. There are heaps of radio stations but I dont know much about that.

Hope I could help. What advice would you give a person thinking of moving to Auckland, New Zealand?
Dont walk home alone at nite in Auckland as the crime is so bad there you will end up getting the **** kicked out of you for no reason
Most of the women are either sheep or chain-smokers.
Hi Leo, first up, the hip hop scene in all of NZ is limited. Why do you want to come here for that? The beaches round Auckland are either polluted or too busy to enjoy, but there are some nicer, cleaner and quieter ones within one to two hours drive fromm the city. And as for the women, well in Auckland they can be very materialistic and pretty phony but outside of the cities they generally are more ';real'; and down to earth.
Kia Ora! haha people are being pretty harsh to us kiwi women! :P I used to live in Auckland, and its a really great place to live! I must admit if you want to work in radio you would probably be better in either wellington (where I am now), christchurch or Tauranga. They seem to have more concentrated areas of hip-hop. Beaches are amazing in Mt Maunganui (Tauranga), and they also have a great hip hop scene. Great vibe there, with friendly and laid back people. I've been there a number of times and would love to move up there myself!

The only advice I have is to enjoy all that NZ has to offer. Travel around and see the sites, especially down south in places like Queenstown.
if you mess with an auckland chick and play her...expect the whole family/relatives/extended family/family friends/nextdoor neighbour/family dog attack your a**!!!
    Move to Wellington instead =]

    ...
People ARE making stuff up here - it's fine to walk home at night in Auckland in the city, or city fringe areas like Ponsonby - I do it all the time and I'm a short blonde girl! South Auckland however... maybe not the best idea.

Where are you living now? That would be helpful in giving you advice especially on the women. There are all sorts from pretentious snobby bitches to dirty STD-infested slappers to scary chicks who beat up anybody that looks in their direction to girls that can outdrink the boys and obliterate them in pool to beat. Hmm... yes, a fine selection of ladies here :P (I fit none of the above categories... there are also lots of normal girls too! I think...? :P)
ummmm top of the north island down to taupo (center of NZ's north island, also Nz's biggest lake) is not a safe place to be. but anywhere down south is very safe. the women in auckland like to sleep around i guess and yeah if u screw them around expect a knife in ur sternum.ummm beeches have very good scenery up north and down south there deserted cause its far too cold lol
Buy a Car unless u live work in Central Auck it is essential.

Most people who love NZ havent been overseas

Most people who rubbish NZ have
What the heck? why is everyone making up crap, it's all good to walk home at night in Auckland just not in south Auckland but just don't make eye contact, why do you want to get into the hip hop industry over here anyway? theres like no potential for that here in NZ especially in Auckland, the women in Auckland I would say are about a 60% Great and 40% YUCK! Piha is the best beach!
geez what did auckland to do most of u?? it's pretty safe compared to many other cities, u have just about everything u need and the ppl are not as bad as u think. of course there are some pretentious, fake ppl, but dont all cities have them?

(auckland) women in general are not slutty... i mean if u hang around clubs and k'rd too much then of course there is a higher percentage of slutty girls. that is no different from other places. i think nz ppl in general are trusting and friendly.

piha's fantastic, even beaches on the north shore are alright.

I'm a graduate working in sales and am thinking of doing of doing similar in NYC. Is it like Europe, can I just turn up and try and find a job or do I need a visa? is there some program that will let me work for a year or so? Any advice much appreciated.. Cosmopolitans are on me.....!I'm English and want to go and work in New York.. Advice?
You definetely need a visa to work in the US. You can however, find certain companies (and there are many) that will sponsor foreign employees until they can obtain the required papers. Do a little internet research on this. Good luck in your job search!I'm English and want to go and work in New York.. Advice?
You will need a visa to get a job in America.

I am looking at expanding my business and can offer you a business prospect for over 40 countries around the world - and rapidly expanding. The company was established in 1987 in USA. It is in the Health and Lifestyle industry. From my research, its compensation plan is the best in the industry and there is also a car program. The products it manufacturers are the safest in the world (as espoused by Dr Samuel Epstein - Chairman of the Anticancer Coalition) He doesn't get paid for saying that. You can work from anywhere you want and build a passive income stream.

If you would like me to send you the presentation, please email me at leanne27@aapt.net.au
Yes you will need a visa. Find an international recruitment consultancy with offices in both NY and the UK who specialise in sales. Or just find one in NY, although you'll probably need to call them rather than just sending your CV. This should be easy enough by simply typing it in a search engine.

Can you give me advice on moving into a new home (townhome)?

How do I go about cleaning and maintaining the home on my first day of moving in? How do I go about meeting my neighbors? Should I have the locks changed? Can you give me advice on moving into a new home (townhome)?
    I always change the locks.

The neighbors you will run into because everyone is watching you move in.

As far as cleaning, you should do that before things are moved in.Can you give me advice on moving into a new home (townhome)?
if u'r looking on cleaning... clean out the drawers/ cabinets %26amp; lay contact paper or rubbermaid makes new shelf liner stuff which would protect everything. Then u can load u'r dishes/ etc on u'r lst DAY after u have moved everything.

Don't worry so mch about cleaning everything up b/c u will have accumlated enuff from moving. get some items settled lst then worry about that later. Make sure u can fill u'r drawers %26amp; closet... make u'r bed... wash out the sink %26amp; mayb shower/tub.... toliet... then start slowly unloading the rest. Hopefully, u can get whoever or however helping u to move to place u'r furniture in the place u want it.

If u'r purchasing u'r house thru a realitor then the locks should b changed but ask %26amp; u could do so esp. if u didn't get all the keys.

Then after u have gotten settled... u can go %26amp; greet u'r neighbors. If u want, u could meet them at their door %26amp; intro u'rself or invite them over for a little dessert.

    have fun...
Well what you should do is vacuum the carpets and wash the windows. Mop the tile if there is any. Then move everything in and unpack. Have a house warming party with a bunch of your friends and invite your neighbors too. Yes, you should definately change the locks. It is a lot safer then just having the originals on. I hope this helped. Good luck.

Where can I find advice as to what DJ equipment to buy for a new DJ in the MP3 world?

I was a DJ back in the day of, ';Two turntables and a microphone,'; but I want to get back into the DJ business. I am have a laptop and a home computer and am interested in what type of DJ equipment to get if I want to DJ with my laptop and CDs instead of lugging around the ';coffin'; with my turntables. I am all for buying used equipment if it is reliable and while I want to go lean and inexpensive that doesn鈥檛 mean I want to go cheap and low quality. Any suggestions?Where can I find advice as to what DJ equipment to buy for a new DJ in the MP3 world?
I've been using Traktor 3 and a Faderfox controller for over a year now, and it's never let me down. You can do so much more with MP3's than vinyl that I'll rarely even bring my records to a gig anymore. CD's are OK, but again, it's another 10-20 pounds to lug on your shoulder, and you have to be able to know how to work all kinds of CD units. Also, if you're up for the MP3 route, keep your eyes on Vestax-they're about to release a Traktor dedicated controller that's looking meeeean at the moment: http://vestax.com/v/products/players/vci鈥?/a>Where can I find advice as to what DJ equipment to buy for a new DJ in the MP3 world?
i currently dj now and it seems most of us have gone the Serato route. all i carry to my gigs now is a laptop and serato box and plug into the club's system. if you are doing mobile gigs and needing your own turntables, the pioneer cdj 800s or cdj 1000s seem to be the industry standard now. not cheap, but i have the 800s and they are great. i started off with turntables, then went to CDJs, and now i've gone Serato and haven't had any problems. sometimes i miss ';diggin' though the crates';, but my back definitely doesn't miss carrying around 3-4 gigs a night. and if you like the feel of vinyl at your finger tips, you can also use serato with turntables as well. good luck!

Advice on purchasing a new car?

I've recently paid off my vehicle and am debating on trading in for a new one. Any suggestions as to what I should do? Trade OR keep my car free of payments? I've looked a new cars and I've found a lot that I like but dont know if I should trade it in. Any suggestions on good cars to buy if I do trade?Advice on purchasing a new car?
I agree with funzcar. If you don't need it, don't buy it.

However, if your current car is having major mechanical problems, or if you have outgrown it (compact car not doing it for the soccer mom lifestyle), or if you need to downsize (big truck drinking too much gas?), then I would consider trading.

On a sheet of paper, write out a ';Pros %26amp; Cons'; list of keeping vs. trading. It may clarify some doubts you may have and/or steer you in the right direction.Advice on purchasing a new car?
If the car you currently have is not causing you any problems, I would keep it. There is no need to be back in debt just because you paid off a car.

  • What advice do you have to help me face my new life?

I've recently become homeless. I feel I've lost my whole world. I find it hard to face the future. I've rediscovered my relationship with God which helps. But I still get really depressed. What advice do you have to help me face my new life?
first of all keep your head up. ive been through homelessness on and off for four years and im finally self-supporting and pretty happy. i dont know if your situation is drug or alcohol related (as mine was) but the best thing you can do is stay sober, stay positive, and find someone to talk who has been through the same. i promise you if you make the effort (hard as it may be) you WILL get through this. tell yourself that when you get low. keep praying and think about what steps you can take to get back on your feet. take care of yourself, you will be in my prayers. What advice do you have to help me face my new life?
roll up your sleeves, get busy and get back on the right track..your faith will help you along the way, good luck, stay on the good path.-
you are homeless and have a computer,i doubt the validity of your question.
Desire to have a home. Before going to sleep-picture out yourself in a your dream house. When waking-up, imagine this things again. You will achieve whatever you desire if you are positive in life. I believe you can have a home again. Your dream home. Erase negatives thoughts. Fight negative thoughts. You can do it. Good luck.
Go to the Library...and read the book...';Conversations With God'; by Neale Donald Walsh...he was homeless too for awhile. And you will see how God works in our lives. He is always with you, and this part of your life was PLANNED....go read it, you'll be glad you did.
find a good paying job, try to take a shower as often as possible and do your best to get back on your feet. My boyfriend was homeless for a little over a year before I meet him and he mad it through it some how. Just don't give up. good luck.
Well, from the way you write alone, it seems you're a very intelligent and eloquent person with computer skills. I'm sorry things have become hard for you. But I'm glad you've found great hope in God's company.

I work with teenagers in difficult situations, some who deal with homelessness. I've become amazed as to how many local resources there are to help people bounce back. Search the internet (google resource lists for your area) or better yet your library should have a thick book with all that info (ask the information desk).

If you feel lonely, think of this as a time to work on yourself, learn a new skill, read, etc. so when interesting people or opportunities come along, you can take pride in yourself.
Well, it's a good sign that you're homeless and have been able to keep your computer and internet access. Must be hard to get a place to plug it in. Good luck in the future. Perhaps you can sign up for DSL soon.
Your homeless but have the internet???

o.k.well that is great that you have discovered god though:)
Keep your faith with Jesus and it will all work out I promise.

I'm tired of being a Pisces and have been for some time so I need to advice for a new beginning?

I just need new everything? New man, new job, more money, happiness, new activities. Any suggestions. Exreme Makeover Life Edition..heheI'm tired of being a Pisces and have been for some time so I need to advice for a new beginning?
While everyone has their ups and downs, you being a Pisces honestly have an advantage over every other sign in the zodiac. While many may refer to Pisces as the ';dust bin,'; they do this because the emotional and pessimistic nature of Pisces usually gets in the way of their talents. That is the problem with Pisces, we are a culmination of every sign in the zodiac, but with such dark emotion that we are our own worst enemies. What you need to do is master YOURSELF before you go searching for a NEW MAN. While this CAN help you, there are much higher chances that it will not.

When I say master yourself, I don't mean hit the gym and start reading a **** load of books. The path is unique to you, but the first step is believing in yourself.I'm tired of being a Pisces and have been for some time so I need to advice for a new beginning?
I have read there are two types of Pisces. My cousin is a Pisces and he tend to be the very hard working successful type. I would love to be him, I admire everything about him. He makes over $100,000 a year as an actuary and he graduated from college just a few years ago, he has lots of very important friends, he has a beautiful home with a lot of land, he had an SAT score of 1350 and has always been a genius at math, he is very confident about himself and he is very respected everywhere he goes. I would love to be that Pisces any day of the week.
sadly its a bad year for the fishys =/ seems like my bad year was 2006 so it should be comin around again shortly.

Write a list of what u dont like and exactly what u would like and how to go about changing it. Set goals and stick with them. Once you hit rock bottom in life theres no where to go but up. Make an idea of exactly what its going to take to be content. I say content because no ones happy all the time. Make realistic goals and changes and try every day to be better. Everything great comes with time, hard work and dedication. Try sticking those things out even if it suck it may pay off in the long run.
I love being a Pisces. I've studied my entire chart and made use of what I learned. You can look at it for indications of what career would be best for you (what is happening with your 10th and 6th houses); what would probably bring you lasting happiness in terms of wishes and hopes (the 11th house); what hobbies and amusements would interest you (the 5th house); what you look for and need in a partner (the 7th house, Moon, Venus, Mars); what is the path of least resistance for earning money (aspects to Jupiter and house placements); and so on.

There is much more than what I've suggested. There are several sites where you can have a free chart done so that you can get a feel for what all is going on other than your sun sign.

With that said... astrology shows directions. It all comes down to you.
I'm a Pisces boy. I have my good days, and I have my bad days. This happens pretty much because they way our luck changes feels too frequent. One day we're the Kings and Queens of the Planet, suddenly, we're the scum of the world. Life has it's ups and downs, but just be prepared for this. You'll find it eaier in some parts and hard on others. Just stay posted is all I'll say.
Well you have Transit Saturn opposing your natal Sun...

You may lack self-confidence. Difficulty deciding who you are. You're constantly in a battle with your insecurities. A lack of self-approval is usually present when the Sun and Saturn are opposition.
Sometime I hate being a Scorpio, I have the intense emotions that come with it but I'm trying to step above those negative energies that get the best of me and let my positive shine through.
Yes its not a really good year for Pisces ; but at the end of Oct ; things will start to get lot better for all Pisces
Life sucks for everybody who isn't stinking filthy rich... So don't worry about it. I'm a Pisces too and my life kinda sucks right now as well.

What advice would you give me in negotiating the price/financing for a new vehicle?

I want to stay under $20,000 and am interested in a small SUV.What advice would you give me in negotiating the price/financing for a new vehicle?
Contact 5 area dealers with the specifications for a vehicle you would buy.

You know: privacy windows, V6 3.2 or better, 24 miles per gallon highway, color, Et Cetra. List everything and be very specific.

Tell them they are bidding against these four dealers, a Toyota dealer a Chevy dealer, Et Cetra.

Tell them by what day you will buy the vehicle. I recommend buying on December 31, March 31, June 30, or September 30. These are the last day of the quarter and dealers want to meet their monthly and quarterly unit sales bonuses and the salesman want to meet his month and quarterly goals, they will deal more loosley with you on price and accessories on these days.

Wait fo them to bid. Some will, some won't, I suppose.

Be willing to wait for your price and walk away form any deal that isn't to your favor.

Remember they need to sell vehicles to stay in business. You don't have to buy.

On financing, get your financing before going to a dealer and tell them it is a cash purchase. Credit unions are good places for car financing. What advice would you give me in negotiating the price/financing for a new vehicle?
Always offer low, once you make an offer you cannot go down in price from then on. Look for a previous year model that dealers want to get rid of such as an 07 escape etc. Make sure to tell them your looking for the best ';out the door price'; which is tax, title, etc. And dont be afraid to shop around other dealears and tell them your shopping around to local competitors and will take the best deal. Also get pre approved before you go shopping so you know what you can afford and stick to it! if you need financing still try wells fargo auto finance. hsbc auto finance. capital one auto finance. or 5/3 bank or a local credit union..
A small SUV under $20,000 is not unreasonable IF it's used. If a new vehicle retails for $24,000 or more then I can guarantee the dealership will not be able to get you under $20,000 The markup in the vehicles is not as much as people think they are (I used to sell Chevy's, I know).

That being said, there IS wiggle room, and there are A LOT of techniques dealerships use to confuse you and trick you. Which is why I got out of the business. My conscience just wouldn't let me do it anymore.

If you want to negotiate for a car check out my site here: http://www.1-800badcredit.com. I have a newsletter you can sign up for (located in the car loans section) that will reveal all the tricks salesmen and managers use to confuse you and how to get the best deal.

One of the best things you can do is get pre-approved. Pre-approval gives you a fixed amount to work with and gives you the freedom to shop around for the best vehicle and the best price.

    Good luck to you!
Biggest tip - be ready to WALK AWAY from the vehicle. Everyone tries to negotiate, but sellers know who is bluffing.

You give a price, and if they won't meet it or reasonably neg., Walk Out. There are too many dealers not to find another car.

    .
Ask the dealer if he has room to dip into the holdback, also ask if there is any dealer cash. A lot of dealers advertise an amount over invoice, and sometimes at invoice..but they have additional money called holdback that is profit beyond selling a vehicle over invoice. Also they might have what is called dealer cash, which is additional rebates that the dealership doesn't have to give to the consumer.
    WALK OUT.

It鈥檚 amazing how many people aren鈥檛 willing to do this - either because of social conventions or because they don鈥檛 want to waste the time they鈥檝e already spent.

The single best negotiating tactic you have is to stand up and start leaving. Why? They鈥檒l be desperate to keep you on the lot, and as long as you鈥檙e not being completely unreasonable, they鈥檒l cave on something.

And if they don鈥檛? Who cares? What is the consequence to you of walking out? Absolutely nothing. The car dealer is not going to blacklist you.

You can walk right back in to the same dealership tomorrow and they鈥檒l start right back where you were. If they really can鈥檛 do your offer on the invoice and let you leave - then try another dealer in town with a slightly higher offer.

If that doesn鈥檛 work, go back to the first one with an even higher one. Start low and move up, because it can save you several thousand dollars.
