Advice for buying new washer/dryer?

I'd love some advice in buying a new electric washer/dryer, am not especially fond of a front-load machine but saw a top-load washer w/ top load dryer with glass lids - kinda neat looking, but has anyone used them? I'd like a decent size machine, but not huge. I also prefer to buy from Lowe's although I'm not afraid to look elsewhere. thanks!!Advice for buying new washer/dryer?

The Kenmore appliances at Sears generally are very good.





Get one big enough to wash your bedding (e.g. comforter).





For a washer about all you need is ability to control:





+ water temperature (cold, warm, hot)


+ water level (low, med, high)


+ time





For a dryer a sensor that checks to humidity and buzzes when the clothes are dry is good.Advice for buying new washer/dryer?
I bought a washer and a gas dryer from best buy...they had a low price if you bought both, so thats what i did....i am kind of tall and i like the top loading washer, but the front loading dryer hurts my back when i bend down to put stuff in it, so i guess id say get the cheapest top loaders
buy them big.and buy them outright cash from a furniture store.and remember you are the boss.not them.you want what you want for $300 less.sounds crazy i know.But i just got a super capacity washer and dryer set from whirlpool.front loaders for $600.brand new with a 10 yr warentee.
I would buy a refurbished one.They are 1/3 the price and they are made better(Maytag) and are easier to fix.

I would suggest. Getting the washer/dryer with the features you will use most. No need in paying the extra price for features you won't use. Also don't go by the looks. By the way Lowe's is a high place to buy appliances. I would suggest Sears.
We just bought a set from Lowe's and we went with a front loader for the following reasons.





Top loader uses more water


larger load capacity in front loader ( washer and Dryer)


Ease in accessability on front loader


Lower maintenace problems ---No agitator

Maytag was bought by westinghouse


LG (from 2 seperate stores and sales assoc) has problems with front seals. I'd steer clear of that .





The one's your talking about look good but no great shakes ...Read the info on the items and Compare.





We bought a Bosch because it's a name that is associated with quality. It was on sale and I got a rebate on delivery !





We were going to buy the Fridgedaire, also good.





By the way I have a top loader washer and dryer that are only a year old and I opted for front load in our new home.

We've owned various washers and driers in our twenty five years of marriage, get a cheap one. You will end up using cold wash most of the time. The drier, same thing, always using the same old one or two settings, all those other fancy settings never touched them. Trust me, my daughter has a fancy one, same thing, uses the same few settings, all the others are eye candy, a waste. What brand? Get a known name brand, if you get some odd ball name brand, don't be surprised it is hard to get it fixed when something goes wrong cause no one stocks the parts.
