I need your professional advice regarding an opening of a new business?

A friend of mine is thinking to get into the air duct cleaning business. (He was working for such company a long time ago)

Dose any body knows anything about that kind of business? (Maybe also carpet cleaning)

Do you have to have a license to do air duct cleaning? (In Texas)

My friend told me that it is only brushing and vacuuming of the ducts with the air duct cleaning machine. Nothing complicatedI need your professional advice regarding an opening of a new business?
Check out sba.gov....Small Business Administration...lots of useful info on starting a business. There are also SCORE counselors listed (by area) that will help you out. You need to be very aware of the regulations you must comply with in starting out, as not following them is the reason why most new small businesses fail. You should also pull together a business plan so you know if financially this will be a good venture! GOOD LUCK!I need your professional advice regarding an opening of a new business?
You need a business license to operate a business, and a tax license to collect and pay taxes. Your friend should know of any special licenses to do the work there if he was in the business before. I don't think he should need a license to clean the vents but he will need to be insured with liability insurance in case he damages the vents he is cleaning.

Hoping to plan a trip to New York but I need some advice?

I have never been to New York and I'm planning on making either a one day or weekend trip there this summer. However, I have alot of muscle problems with my legs what would be a good alternative instead of doing a lot of walking. I would like to see the sights but I don't want to seriously injure myself either. Any advice???Hoping to plan a trip to New York but I need some advice?
You can try taking a double deck sightseeing tour of the city. Its not much, but it will be very helpful.

Good luckHoping to plan a trip to New York but I need some advice?
Yeah, NYC is really meant for walking, so that is a problem. You're only real other choice is some kind of tour - and yes, those bus tours will at least take you past all the main sights -- you can get off and walk a bit and then ride the bus again. Of course you could take a horse-drawn carriage ride around Central Park, but that is only for 30 minutes.

New house/ need advice on the poor construction please!?

We had a new house built. when it is windy, I hear the siding against the house rattle and it makes an awful noise like someone beating sheet plastic while scraping and tapping metal nails against the wood against the house. it is loud and actually keeps me up when Im trying to sleep at night. I spoke to a neighbor who says they don't have this problem. the builder foreman says he doenst think he is ';going to find anything'; I m not educated enough about building to know what is wrong and how to fix %26amp; because of this I dont nkow how to get this resolved. I should nt have to feel like I need to persuede them to try. I do know something is wrong. Please, any experienced people in any field of knowledge, Help!

thanksNew house/ need advice on the poor construction please!?
If you know the manufacturer of the siding, why don't you call them to see if they can send a customer service representative to examine your installation. It's in their interest to help you solve your problem, otherwise they may lose future business because of your poor recommendation. You could also call the supplier (lumber yard?) your builder used to see if they can give you information or contacts.

In the meantime you need to document every telephone call and letter to your builder in case you need to go to court. Make your requests in writing, keep a copy, and send the original by certified mail, return receipt requested. Get a disinterested witness if possible, to help prove that your inquiries were within the warranty period.New house/ need advice on the poor construction please!?
Sounds like they we too cheap to use enough nails to anchor

the siding

Get in touch with local Building Inspector, In most area's he can be sued for passing bad contractor work
Is this vinyl siding? If it isn't nail down properly it will flap in the wind. Wood siding will do the same thing. Sometimes siders miss the studs and the nails pop back out. Next time the wind blows, go outside and inspect it. Take pictures of the loose siding and then call your builder back. If he still won't come out, there are construction defect attorneys who will come out and take a look to see if it's within code. Usually these guys get the problems solved with the builder.

You can't sue a building inspector so work with the builder.

Your builder is liable for at least one year so get moving on this.

Also, call him and his foreman EVERYDAY until they come out and address the problem. While your at it, make a list of other defects you find so he isn't coming to your house everyday. It will make you both happy.
If your siding is vinyl siding, I'd say that MTC is on track and it can and should be corrected. If it's a different type of siding, I think you have a more serious problem. Considering the size of your investment, I'd think it wise to have a home inspector take a look at your entire house. This will cost you a little but could save you a bundle. The builder has to warranty items for a certain time-frame, so you need to be proactive and put everything in a written, documented manner for your own protection.
To allow for expansion the siding is not nailed tight to the sheathing. It sounds like the siding nails were left too loose, a product of inexperience. The contractor needs to fix it and you will find that if the noise isn't totally gone, it will be reduced tremendously. This can be a big job and the contractor will be reluctant to fix it, don't hesitate, insist.
Angelita I saw you on the news today...!!

good luck! vinyl is nailed in with usually 1 1/2 '; roofing nails along the top, %26amp; THE BOTTOM SNAPS IN.... PLENT LOOSE %26amp; PLENTY OF MOVEMENT %26amp; NOISE
new construction or renovation doesnt matter you hired and paid for it do be done correctly. You go after the the builder or contractor whom ever was in responisble for the work. dont give in they are responsible hold them accountable. good luck
Without knowing what sort of siding you have it is hard to diagnose a problem, however loose-flapping in the wind-siding is never acceptable. If this is a new house you should have remedies- the house or the siding should be under some sort of warranty: put a complaint in writing and send it to the contractor NOW! I can't stress enough that you must get the time line verified in writing, mention times %26amp; dates when you previously complained either verbally or in writing, keep copies of all correspondence and keep a log of all calls made.

If the builder can not or will not find/repair your problem, you would probably have to find another builder or perhaps home inspector to diagnose the problem- don't have the person you hire fix it unless not fixing will cause further damage or the original builder simply will not do any work. Get references if you do hire someone else. Keep track of all your expenses. It may become a legal issue and if so everything needs to be documented

Need advice on the maintenance of my new haircut?

I just shaved my head bald on a whim and love it! My girlfriend, will probably hate it, but she'll live. I didn't think about how much the maintenance for this cut will be. How difficult is it to shave my own head with a razor? Is it better to shave it with a razor, or just clippers? How often do I need to cut it to make it look good?Need advice on the maintenance of my new haircut?
hey my dad shaved his head too, its been fourteen years since he did that lol , but he maintains it really well. before hes off to work, he just wets the razor and slowly does a touch up on it. Never waits for it to grow. wen it shows the slightest bit hes off to shave. And its better with a razor. So hope this helps the slightest bit.

I have to buy a new desktop, any advice as to what type please?

I am going to buy a new desktop computer and don't know which type to get, I have been advised against a laptop,(which is what I originally wanted) not sure why though, I need it for photo's, general internet purposes, some office work, ie.Letters, and booking appointments, music, just basic stuff really, how much memory do I go for etc. but there are so many different types around. As you can gather I am not that clued up where computers are concerned, so any help is much appreciated.

Thanks in anticipation!I have to buy a new desktop, any advice as to what type please?
I would say follow this sort of a specification or higher:

1.6 to 2.0 + Ghz [processor]

1GB ram [R.A.M - RANDOM ACCESS MEMORY]

I mean.. that's where the money really lyes.. the processor and ram.

拢200-300

these day's dual core is out so you can get 1.6 X2 (dual core)

As for the make of processor theres usually two types. Intel %26amp; AMD. AMD is more value for money and does a really swell job.I have to buy a new desktop, any advice as to what type please?
Pentium 4 1Ghz

512MB RAM

Around about 拢400
I rather like polished Oak, although a mahogany can be rather nice, My cousin had this problem after he nailed a chap to his desk when he was a few days late with certain payments, but a piece of formica was glued in place which hid the damage.
Hello, Am if thats all you want it for I'd suggest a laptop, your music will take away your memory space so id suggest about an 80 harddrive. Get over 512 ram for speed and dont pick a brand you never heard of, but its all down to what your willing to spend really
I agree with your friend about the laptop, they aren't really worth the extra money. If space is an issue, ask for a sff (small form factor) base unit and an LCD display. If price is an issue, don't go for the top of the range, you can get a reconditioned machine from dell with a six month warranty. If you don't already have internet access, forget about dell and go to a high street vendor. Explain your level of expertise, what you intend to use the machine for and your budget. I wouldn't recommend PC World, they will completely ignore you as an individual and try to sell the most expensive machine you can afford and then some extended warranty.
as you dont need gaming specifications a computer may cost less than normal, but even cheap p.cs come with average graphic cards these days

for your requirements i recommend the mesh Matrix虏 A5000+ TV(http://www.meshcomputers.com/Default.asp鈥?/a>

this is a good all round system with 19'; widescreen tft monitor and a nvidia geforce 512mb 7300gs graphics card

it also includes a amd athlon dual core 5000+ 64 bit processor and 1024mb of ram,and teamed up with a 320gb serail ata hard drive theres plenty of storage space for your files and music, ect

also as a added bonus this also has a hybrid tv tuner, which is both digital and analogue,so you can record live tv to hard drive

recording and burning dvd/cd,s is made easy aswell with a 18x dvd-rw drive

i reckon this a spot on system for the price and with windows vista home premium installed this is a future proof p.c

good luck
i work on and build pcs. my personal pcs i stick with gateway and ibm. compaq which is now with hewlett packard, i dont recommend either. acer is another one that isnt worth purchasing. dell is probably what i would go with afer ibm and gateway. dell is alright and they have been running a commercial lately 1 gig of ram and i believe 80 gig hard drive with a flat panel monitor for like 659.00 sounds like a pretty good deal. but for what you say you need 512 mb ram is fine and 40 gig hard drive is fine. i dont know if you want to burn your own musi or movies to cd/dvd. but its not much more toget one with a cd/dvd writer drive, rather than just a cd. i dont know where you are but i have 4 systems like new sitting here for sale. everthing incuded for between 100.00 and 250.00 anyway goodluck!
definitely go for a macbook. They totally rule and come with almost everything you need already installed--you'll probably just need to buy MS Office. Macs are the best cause they are so user friendly and you can't screw them up. Most people have very little problems and they don't really get viruses.
For the purposes you need, you don't require anything too special.

CPU: Anything over 1GHz

Hard drive: Just get an even 100GB

RAM: 1GB should do it, if that.

Ethernet hookup

I don't know why your friends said no to a laptop either, other than a laptop is generally more expensive than a desktop.

If you need any more spec recomendations, feel free to contact me.
hi mortal.

I think u should still go 4 a laptop if u should still desire. seek out your local shop or the Internet 4 bargains there will be one there at a price to fill your needs. I always tell mortals to get at least 1gig of ram (vista ready) and as much storage space as u can afford. A laptop is always more handy if you do office work.

matt da god.
www.alienware.com

those are pretty leet
Processor-2.0GHz

RAM - 256 or 512**mb( if games r the very need,sme games need1**Gb)

Hard DISK - 80Gb** or 40Gb ok

graphic card - 64mb card**

**- if u mainly use ur PC for high graphic games

I think u can go 4 laptop uf u r office goer or business man
Hi, The think about no buying a laptop is because the cost and possibility of upgrading it in the future is not viable compared with a desktop.

And to the point of which desktop?.. well.. go for the 3 or 4 major brands.. like Dell, Compaq/hp, Sony, Gateway..etc.. check the review site for those brands and for your requirements then we are talking about $500.00, It may include flat monitor check the dell dimension's on the middle range.

No real need for fancy stuff like Pricey graphic card, and also the amount of RAM memory better be from 512mb. up. is better,,etc..

Also you can build your own PC.. with good quality parts,

you may start with bare bone, checkout, Fry's electronics, Tigerdirect..etc.. they also have Outlets in the states..cheers..

I want a new home my husband wants to renovate, any advice?

We have an old farmhouse with 3 additions( not one of them done properly) no heat or plumbing upstairs, needs all new subflooring, drywall insulation, doors, windows...and he thinks we can do it ourselves...anyone out there have the same problem?I want a new home my husband wants to renovate, any advice?
My advice is to figure out what it will cost you in increased taxes, insurance, and payments before you make this decision.

There are men who could and would renovate their own house successfully. I don't know if your husband is one or not. It might be much cheaper to fix the house you have. Does he complete the projects he starts? Does he have understanding or experience with home repair?

    Edit:

You don't need to be a contractor to know how to replace drywall, subflooring, or windows. He either does or doesn't have the skills and both of you probably know from experience what he can accomplish.I want a new home my husband wants to renovate, any advice?
Get your home appreciated. Check how much it is worth and the person doing it for you can actually give you some good advice. He or she will let you know if it is a good idea to remodel according to your plans and how much the house will be worth at afterwords or if you are better off selling and buying a new home. Good luck.
Unless he works on This Old House, I'd worry. OK, if he's a knowledgeable contractor in electrical, plumbing, structural engineering, drywall (ok that's not toooo hard), wood working, concrete work, etc.......and YOU are willing to put up with a home remodel that will take 10 years, many arguments, battles, money......have him rethink this.

If you think 10 years is unreasonable......stop and add up the hours you expect a contractor and crew (who know what they are doing) would take, at least triple that for folks who don't know what they are doing, and then apply to free hours you have to work on this per week.

You might save money but only if you know what you are doing, get great bargains on materials (contractor's prices), etc. If you two enjoy this fine, otherwise you'll be looking for a divorce lawyer before the job is done.
I'd be about the last person to argue against remodeling, given what I do for a living and the fact that I'm always (slowly) working on my own house. But in some cases the effort isn't worth it. My first house was like that: Looking back it would have been more efficient just to bulldoze it and start fresh. But I had a lot of time and little money so I did all the work myself. Learned a lot. (My wife says I should have learned more about bulldozers, because it was her first house, too). Anyway, sometimes the home needs far more work than is justified and cost-effective, or the homeowners don't have the budget to hire it out and don't have the skills or the time or the inclination to do it themselves. Maybe you could undertake a modest project that will help you see the potential in your place. Or maybe you could mix hands-on projects with hired-out projects. For example, I know how to roof and I've done it, but life is short (particularly if you fall off a roof) so I gladly pay others to roof my house. That leaves me time to do the stuff I like.

Take at the look at this story of a husband %26amp; wife facing a major remodel. It probably won't solve anything for you but maybe it'll give you some ideas!

    http://www.thisoldhouse.com/toh/article/鈥?/a>
I used to work for a home developer. New homes can have shitty construction. I had people complaining about major problems not even a year after they bought the homes. ( We are in Florida and this was during Karina and Wilma). Which ever you choose make sure you get an inspector with you in mind.
lol well if he thinks that let him and if he doesnt start: a good old trick is to start a job your self make a complete mess of starting it ,and he will come in thinking he is the best and just take over natural male instincts and all. and finish it as they will tell you you are doing it all wrong.
    If you can,do it.

    just don't over improve.

The main reason for staying would be the location or something special about the house because there are awesome buys out there. So you could throw some paint on it sell it as fixer upper and buy another.

    Good Luck

Anyone have any good advice on school lunches for my new kindergartner?

healthy but tasty lunches please.Anyone have any good advice on school lunches for my new kindergartner?
pbnj, teddy grahms, and goldfish with a choco milkAnyone have any good advice on school lunches for my new kindergartner?
As a teacher who sees kids throw away TONS of food (I hate having lunch duty because the waste makes me sick), my best advice is give them simple, basic stuff that you know they already like. And don't give them little packages of things that are impossible for them to open by themselves. Teachers end up spending most of their lunch duty opening things for kids, and while your kid is waiting for someone to get to him, half the lunch period is over.

I'd say it's more important to think about what they eat at home, not worry about it at school, because half the time they aren't going to eat what you give them anyway. If the kid next to them has a bag of chips, they're going to share, and your little angel won't even notice the carrot sticks you put in his lunchbag, lol!

It's also my experience that lunch time is one of the few times during the day that kids can socialize, and they spend way more time talking than eating. A lot of the kids I see, didn't have time to finish their lunch because they were too busy talking. I always try to encourage them to eat when I see stuff like that going on, but for most of them the food seems unimportant compared to getting to goof off with your best friend for a while. So, just do the best you can, Mom, but don't worry about it too much.
Here are five fast school lunch ideas that will work for kids of all ages:

    1. Bagel with vegetable 'confetti'

Spread a bagel, use your child's favorite flavor, with plain cream cheese.

Then finely dice an array of sweet raw veggies such as red and yellow peppers and carrots. Sprinkle the veggies liberally over the bagel half.

    Delicious!

    2. Sushi rolls

Most kids LOVE California sushi rolls. The imitation crab meat is sweet, the cucumber crunchy, and the avocado makes is creamy.

If you prefer, you can roll the ';crab meat,'; cucumber and avocado in a flour tortilla instead of the rice .

Cut into pieces as you would a regular sushi roll and wrap it tightly.

    3. You can use the same roll or wrap technique above with salmon or tuna salad. Tortilla wraps are fun and easy!

    4. Sneak some veggies or fruit into their sandwich. Kids generally like the taste of sweet fruit or veggies, but they don't like the thought or look of them.

Try slicing thin slices of pears or apples and adding them to sandwiches. It provides great crunch--and nutrients.

For a healthy dose of Vitamin A, puree some deliciously sweet winter squash (butternut, acorn etc.) and spread onto sandwhich instead of processed mayonnaise.

    5. Frito Pie

My healthy alternative to this crunchy classic is ALWAYS a hit with kids and easy to make--pronto.

Take your favorite chili recipe, with or without meat, heat it through, and send it to school in a thermos with a cup top.

In separate plastic bags, send along some baked tortilla chips and shredded Monterey jack or cheddar cheese.

Have your children arrange some crumpled crips along the bottom of the thermos cup, then add shredded cheese and top with warm chili. The chili melts the cheese, and kids adore it!

    SUPER SUB

Faster than a hot dog, stronger than spicy mustard, SuperSub gives the basic hero extra special powers by adding your child's favorite fixings--sliced onions, red, green or jalape帽o peppers, pitted black olives, or sweet pickles.

    1 medium hero roll

4 to 6 slices of thinly cut cheese and/or luncheon meats

    4 thin tomato slices

    1/2 cup shredded lettuce

    2 tsp. vegetable oil

    2 tsp. red wine vinegar

    Salt and pepper to taste

Slice the hero roll in half lengthwise and scoop out some of the soft bread inside. Line both sides of the roll with your child's favorite cheese and luncheon meat. Top with the tomato slices and shredded lettuce. Sprinkle the surface evenly with the oil and vinegar and season with salt and pepper and any special additions. Close up the sandwich, then cut it in half and wrap it in plastic wrap or aluminum foil. Makes 1 large sandwich.

    BOLOGNA BOAT

Bologna may not be included on most parents' Top Five Sandwich lists, but children recognize the true worth of this lunchtime standby. This version--which comes dressed as a hot dog--tastes great accompanied by a few potato chips and a pickle.

    1 tsp. mustard

1 slice bologna (or turkey bologna)

    1 slice American cheese

    1 hot dog bun

Spread the mustard onto the slice of bologna. Top with a slice of cheese and roll them together. Place the roll in the hot dog bun and wrap it in aluminum foil. Makes 1 serving.

Tuck these in a lunch box:

鈥?Vegetable sticks with a small container of salad dressing for dipping

    鈥?Fresh fruit

    鈥?Pretzels

鈥?Celery sticks filled with cream cheese or peanut butter and raisins

    鈥?Fruit yogurt

    鈥?Pudding

鈥?Crackers--plain or with peanut butter or cheese

    鈥?Cheese sticks

    鈥?Graham crackers

    鈥?Fortune cookies

    鈥?Dried fruit

    鈥?Fruit leather

    鈥?Nuts

鈥?Tortilla chips with a small jar of salsa

    鈥?Small bags of popcorn

Even the most devoted PB %26amp; J fans enjoy a little variety now and again. Try pairing one of the following ingredients with peanut butter for a taste twist on the classic combination.

    鈥liced bananas

    鈥?Brown sugar

    鈥?Honey

    鈥?Bacon

    鈥?Sliced apples

    鈥?Raisins

    鈥?Chopped, pitted dates

    鈥?Grated carrots

    鈥?Wheat germ and honey

    鈥?Fluff or marshmallow creme

PEANUT BUTTER AND BANANA BREAD SANDWICH

Homemade banana bread is the secret ingredient in this twist on the old standby. Spread a couple of slices with peanut butter, and you create a nutritious sandwich that has the sweet flavor of a dessert. If you have a couple of extra ripe bananas on hand, double the recipe and freeze one loaf to have handy for future sandwiches or breakfast treats.

    Ingredients

    2 cups all-purpose flour

    1 tsp. baking powder

    1/2 tsp. baking soda

    1/2 tsp. salt

    6 tbsp. unsalted butter, softened

    3/4 cup granulated sugar

    2 large eggs

1 cup mashed ripe bananas (about 2 large bananas)

    1/4 cup milk

    2 tsp. vanilla extract

    Directions

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and butter a 4-by-8-inch loaf pan. Lightly dust the pan with additional flour and tap out the excess. In a large bowl, stir together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. In another bowl, use a wooden spoon to cream together the butter and sugar.

One at a time, add the eggs, beating well with a fork after each addition. Stir in the bananas, milk, and vanilla extract until combined. Stir in the flour mixture until it is just blended. Scrape the batter into the loaf pan and spread it evenly.

Bake for 45 to 55 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the bread comes out clean. Remove the pan to a wire rack. Cool for at least 10 minutes before removing the bread from the pan and letting it finish cooling on the rack. Store the completely cooled banana bread in an airtight container at room temperature. Makes 1 loaf or about 12 slices.

    OAT-DATE BARS

Children can help prepare this oaty mixture, press it into the baking pan, and cut it into chewy bars. The sweet results are just right as lunch-box fare or as a quick energy boost on an autumn hike.

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and lightly butter an 8-inch square baking pan. In a small saucepan over medium heat, cook the dates with the water for

about 7 minutes or until they are softened. Remove the pan from the heat and cool. Stir in the lemon juice. In a large bowl, stir together the oats, flour, walnuts, and salt.

    Ingredients

1 package (8 oz.) chopped dates

    1/2 cup water

    1 tbsp. freshly squeezed

    lemon juice

1 1/2 cups uncooked, rolled oats

    1 cup all-purpose flour

    1/3 cup chopped walnuts

    1/8 tsp. salt

    1/2 cup butter, softened

1/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar

    Directions

In another large bowl, using a wooden spoon, cream together the butter and brown sugar. Gradually stir in the oat mixture, reserving 1 cup of it.

Firmly press the remaining mixture into the prepared pan. Spread the dates evenly over the top. Sprinkle the surface evenly with the reserved oat mixture and lightly press it using your fingertips.

Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until just starting to brown. Let cool, then cut into bars. Makes 16 squares.
Easy finger foods that a child can pick up and eat! Cut up veggies, fruit, cheese and crackers. I would be sure that it doesn't need heating, prep to make, etc.

Let your child help select the menu and plan each day.

I recommend portion controlled snacks for treats. Also, make sure there is protein to sustain your child the entire day.

I'm a teacher and I know that the kids get hungry after lunch as well. Perhaps a little extra healthy snack, such as an apple, pretzels or cheese would be good. Juice boxes with 100 percent juice are also a must!
Sandwiches on wheat bread are the school-lunch classics. Turkey or ham usually stays the freshest in the lunch box. Add a juice box, some carrots or celery w/ veggie dip (you can get cute little individual packages of veggie dip at the grocery store), some yogurt or cheese sticks, and a cookie or an apple.
Mine is very picky and all her foods have to not touch So I have mini tupperware dishes.

    Saltene Crackers in one

    Slices of ham in another

    carrots

    banana

    water bottle
Most of the kindergartners at our school like to bring ';Lunchables';. They can be somewhat expensive and even though some companies like Oscar Meyer are making healthier versions you may want to make your own version.

Cut your child's favorite lunch meat into circles using a cookie cutter. Pack these slices along with some cheese cut the same way. Include crackers, juice, a cookie or yogurt.

A lot of the students really enjoy string cheese and those ';Go Gurts'; (portable, squeezable yogurt) for snacks.

PBJ and apple dunks are very popular. In the produce section you can find little prepackaged cups of caramel and other flavors for dunking. Just slice an apple and pack with the dunking cup.

Really, it all depends on your child and his or her preference. Your child will probably come home after a few days in school and make requests based on what the others are eating. Good luck.
    -p b%26amp; j, milk, apple, teddy grahams

    - turkey sandwhich, fruit juice, peach, cheez its

    - peanut butter and honey, water, celery, lemonade.

    I hope these examples worked

it is what i had for lunch!
you could cut the tip of a skewer(to avoid accidents)and make a lunch kabob. you could layer veggies, sliced turkey, cheese cubes, anything you little one likes to eat. you could also do a fruit one as well. pineapple, berries,or melon-practically anything.

you could also start with a wrap and spread either cream cheese,or peanut butter and sprinkle raisins,or shredded carrots, or jam. you could then roll it up and slice it in about 1'; rounds and serve them ';sushi roll ups';.

the possibilities are endless with a few really fun ideas.

you could use cookie cutters on a regular sandwich to make a fun lunch too!
    %26gt; PB%26amp;J w/ a banana then finish it off with a snackpack

%26gt; Tuna fish sandwich w/ a sliced apple with gram crackers

....they can wash it down with a caprisun

    Making myself hungry!
my little boy likes pieces of fresh fruit , lumps of cheese, raisins and smoothie drinks
apples and other fruits are always good
turkey sandwiches, apple slices, raisins, chips, cheese and crackers, banana, cookies.
It depends on your child, since SOOO many young children are so picky, most throw away a lot, as the teacher further up stated. If your child isn't terribly finicky, here are some suggestions that I send for lunches with my 4 kids :)

sandwiches: PB%26amp; honey, PB%26amp; banana, turkey and cheese, cream cheese and their favorite veggies, BLT

rollups: refried bean and cheese, cream cheese and veggie, turkey and cheese, chicken salad, tuna salad, hummous and cucumber, cucumber and cream cheese with shredded mozzarella

fruits: plums, nectarines, peaches, cherries, grapes, apples, oranges (peel if your little one cant' do it), pears, blueberries, strawberries (just put the soft fruits in a tupperware so they dont' get squashed)

veggies: add dip to the bag if your child likes to dip their veggies..... broccoli, celery, sliced tomato, cucumber, peppers, cauliflower, carrots

small yogurts (send a spoon), puddings, jellos, mini cottage cheese, string cheese, gogurts

snacky foods: goldfish, cheese crackers, triscuits, wheat thins or the like, pretzels, croutons (sounds weird, but most kids love them!)

treats: cookie, brownie, rice krispy treat, muffin

I don't buy lunchables as they are junk and overpriced. But sometimes I send homemade lunchables to school.... baggie of their favorite crackers, baggie of presliced lunchmeat and cheese, piece of fruit, some sort of treat. It costs a FRACTION of what a lunchable does and is just as fun for them to make their own little sandwiches with their favorite meat and cheese :)

Not sure but if Hillary gets elected, do you mind if I go with you?
You will need to apply for a resident visa. Contact the NZ Embassy or consulate. You may need to show proof of your relationship of your boyfriend eg, photos, love letters etc ( I know this sounds personal) Is your boyfriend from NZ? If not, then the both of you are going to be on a points system and prove that you have enough money to support yourself while in NZ for 2 years. If your boyfriend is from NZ then he needs to prove that he can surport you for 2 years. This can be very stressful, and cost lots of money. Oh yes, you will need to take medical tests as well.

    Best of Luck
    ummm go by plane .
um not sure, but make sure all your mail goes to the right place, and your bank accounts also
get a plane ticket. get ur passport. get to the airport on time. go to ur bf. make sure he picks u up. its not that complicated. jk. good luck with ur trip
get ready to pay a lot of taxes on everything you but from meals to clothes TVs etc. you will love the weather it's nice and green there all the time great wine and beer nice people great place to live just pack your clothes have a great life good luck
buy steamer tickets and then get to the dock on time
The best advice is to be sure of the bf. Are you getting married? Have you finished school? Finishing college should be your first priority. Then you can support yourself regardless of what happens w/ the bf. And, if you are under 25, you should not be worried about the bf at all.
if you and your bf are both american you'll need to go through a visa process.

Are there any mothers out there that have breastfed that have advice for a new breastfeeding mother?

My baby boy doesn't like to eat for very long at all. He keeps falling asleep and then finally doesn't want to wake back up to eat at all. And then he wants to eat again a half hour later. I want to know if there is anything i can do to get him to eat more at one time. It's very painful for me to have to feed him that often. I am starting to crack and bleed again and scab up. I have lanolin that i put on but it doesn't seem to help that much. Also it hurts very badly to feed him, sometimes it feels like somebody is taking a knife to my nipples. Again, very painful. Please help...

By the way for those of you who remember me asking questions while I was pregnant and tried to help me with names for him I named him Aiden Oscar. He was born 7/27 at 8:02 PM and weighed 7 lbs. 15 oz. and was 21 inches. I was in labor for 33 long hrs.Are there any mothers out there that have breastfed that have advice for a new breastfeeding mother?
If you are cracking and bleeding, keep that lanolin on there all the time. It will help you heal. I'd also suggest calling a LLL Leader and/or a Lactation Consultant to check your latch.

    To keep him awake longer-

Wipe his face with a cool, wet cloth.

    Tickle his feet.

Do gentle ';baby sit ups'; by laying him across your legs and helping him sit up.

Undress him - if he's too warm he'll fall asleep

    Change his diaper between breasts

Make circles on the middle of his forehead.

Dim the lights. Very young babies don't like bright lights and will close their eyes to shut it out and then fall asleep.

    Talk or sing to him

Walk your fingers up and down his spine

Do breast compressions (basically hand expression) while you are nursing to help him get more hindmilk. This may help him to space out feedings a bit.

Keep in mind that, if I did the math right, he's about 3 weeks old. That means he's due for a growth spurt which means about 3-4 days of frequent feedings while he boosts your supply. Are there any mothers out there that have breastfed that have advice for a new breastfeeding mother?
You should make sure the mouth is on the nipple right. The whole nipple should dissappear in the mouth of the baby... My daughter would do that... I would hold off until she was completely sure she was hungry and them stimulate her while she was eating by talking to her. Keeping her looking at you while you feed you not only bond but she stays awake longer to eat...Good Luck you shouldn't give up It is hard for the first few months but it will get better if you keep trying

    '
Make sure he is latched on well so your nipples will not get so sore. Stick with it the first 6 week are hell then it gets alot better.
Hang in there, sweetheart. Most of my advice has already been mentioned by other people. I want to emphasize that what you are doing is so good for your baby and that you should be OK by the time he's 6 weeks old. That's how long it took me with my first child to get on a better schedule and for my nipples to stop hurting.

Here's some good news - I'm currently nursing my second child and we had no problems at all. He learned to latch on right away (maybe it was because I was more comfortable, too) and I didn't even have to use lanolin at all with him. My second one did the same thing though - wanting to nurse every half hour. Try using a pacifier between feedings. I use the Nuk brand and have never had a problem with my children rejecting the breast because I gave them a pacifier. Do you have a swing? Both of my kids would sleep in the swing. Try to get the feedings spaced out to every 2 hours to give your body a little break.

Good luck. Please don't give up. It will get better soon. If you need someone to talk to, e-mail me through Yahoo Answers and I'll send you my e-mail address.
Ooooooooooooh, I know how you feel...for your nipples, try purified lanolin...the brand I use is Lansinoh, you can find it at walmart. Also, get some ';soothies'; and pop those suckers in the freezer (they are little gel breastpads) and when your nipples hurt put them on...the painful feeling will go away after a while, its just that they need to be ';toughened'; and ';conditioned'; for the baby, breastfeeding is as new to you as it is to them so you'll both have to learn...if he keeps falling asleep make him a little uncomfortable, take away his blankie for a while, undress him, anything to keep him awake and if that still doesn't work, try tickling the bottom of his feet...

Again, if the breastfeeding is just waaaaaay too painful, pump it out and give it to him in a bottle...

    Hope this helps! Goodluck
Congratulations on your new little one! Very cute name too. Welcome to breast-feeding land, lol. You have the same complaints that the rest of us had. Unfortunately, that is how it goes, the only other alternative than forcing the baby to feed would be to pump and refridgerate, or turn to the soy formula (makes babys strong and doesn't lead to *milk baby* problems. I feel for ya, I really do, hang in there. :)
Im breastfeeding now to a month old little girl. I would think that by now your nipples would have toughened up. My nipples didnt crack or bleed. I was afraid of that though.

Babies eat when they are hungry. When he is ready to eat he will let you know. My daughter always falls asleep when I feed her. The breast to them is a comfort. They feel safe because they know its you. My daughter sometimes cries just for me to ';feed'; her, but she only just sits there will my nipple in her mouth. I would either just try to tough it out or maybe you should seek a lactation consultant. They will be able to answer your questions more professionally. Call WIC, they have licenced LC.
Try to stimulate him while he is at the breast. This could include stripping him to his diaper and wipeing a cold wash cloth over him to keep him awake. Soon he'll learn that when he's at the breast it's feeding time not sleeping time because he won't want that cold cloth against his skin. Also pinch or tickle his feet, hands etc., talk to him, jiggle him ever so slightly, just keep him stimulated.

Never let him fall asleep at the breast, this could result in comfort sucking, if he falls asleep remove him immediately.

If he has fallen asleep and wakes in a 1/2 hr. then let him cry it out and extra 5 mins, then 10 mins. etc. (it's very tough to let your child cry it out) this way you know he is good and hungry and not just looking to be comforted again.

As for your nipples, squirt some of your breastmilk onto your fingers and gently rub it in. Also be sure to go topless and let the air at them every day for an hour or two. My girlfriend is going through the same situation right now with her nipples. Her midwife gave her little plastic cups to put over her nipples at night so that her bra does not rub against them and cause more irritation. You may want to consider pumping and giving him a bottle during one of his feeds, just to give your nipples a long rest inbetween feeds.

If you have in your area Breastfeeding Buddies or La Leche League in your area give them a call they could have other suggestions for you.

    Best of Luck.
I can't tell you anything that the previous posters didn't alreay say. You got some good advice, Try to stay positive and don't let any negative 'support' keep you from trying. Good luck.
There is a trick I just read about for a baby who falls asleep at the breast. Take your free hand and with fingers on the top of the breast and thumb on the bottom, squeeze your breast and push some milk into his mouth. It said that a baby who isn't done eating will start to suck again and if they won't suck at all, is done. I'm sorry you're going through this, it can be tough. I found a great product to use instead of lanolin. I didn't like lanolin and how sticky it was. It is called Breast Therapy by Gerber. I found it at Wal-Mart. You could try some neosporin between feedings and make sure it's washed off the next time he eats. Good luck.
Try to keep him awake to finish his feeding. Tickle his cheek, give him little nudges, and if all else fails, strip him naked.

I had the same problem with my daughter. It was very stressful and I ended up pumping for 4 months and giving it to her in a bottle. Then I switched to formula.

Good Luck!! I hope he'll get better for you!
It sounds like you don't have him latched on properly. Make an appointment with a lactation nurse. You can get free appointments in most areas. THere is a ointment called Lanisoh...it worked like a charm for me. You need to wake him up when he falls alseep...I know it sounds mean(it isn't) but flick the bottom of his foot and he'll wake up. Keep trying...don't give up
All I can say is good luck.

I tried my best to breast feed both of my little ones. I couldn't do it. They both had breast milk for 3 weeks then I had to put them on formula. They weren't getting enough milk yet I was producing lots. My nipples hurt so bad and I put some medication that the doctor told me about but it just didn't seem to heal. It turned out that giving them a bottle helped me bond more with them. It wasn't a struggle and it was more relaxed.

    Good luck.
don't do it in a public place... that's weird
My best advice is to go see the lactation consultant at the hospital. This saved my LIFE...the appt's are free and they can help examine how you are nursing, your schedule, etc...and troubleshoot any problems. It's totally worth it. Just give the hospital a call and say you want to see the lac. consultant and they'll give you an appt.
I have a 3 year old and a 5 week old. It does hurt at first, very bad. But that only last a week. My 5 week old nursed like that at first and I became engorged. Be careful that does not happen. If the lanolin does not work, try putting a little breast milk on your nipple and letting it air dry. Hang in there it will get better. Trust me. I nursed my 3 year old until she was 18 months. It is worth every moment.
Try to jiggle him to keep him awake. And don't wait until he is completely asleep to get him alert again. Now, about your nipples, he apparently isn't latching on correctly. My son latched on immediately after birth and never had a problem. My daughter was on the total opposite end of the spectrum and I had to get assistance from a lactation specialist. For quite a while, the only way I could get her to latch on properly was the ';cross football hold.'; Also, be sure that your son's bottom lip is pulled out and he is not sucking on his lip as well as your breast. That was a huge problem for us. Good luck.
    Congratulations!

Jiggle him a little as he feeds to keep him awake while feeding.Do NOT feed him every 1/2 hour.He needs to learn how to eat now.I,personally, found bottle feeding easier when going through this as well.

Express your milk into a bottle. You can also freeze it.

Some of us weren't meant to breastfeed and you can still give him your milk this way.
oh you are bringing back memories, that painful painful feeling.. I would cry my eyes out while they ate. try waking him up and trying to latch him back on. if you put the lanolin on pretty thick and use a nursing pad you shouldn't scab up, they also sell something called Soothies, that are gel like pads to put on that are very comforting, Gerber makes a version that is cheaper. if you stick with it the pain will subside, also you could visit a lactation consultant to make sure he is latching on properly as that will cause painful problems too.

    good luck
If you're really adamant about breastfeeding, don't introduce a bottle yet - it's too early! You're both still getting established. Do whatever you have to do to keep him awake - it's normal for babies to fall asleep at the breast. Tickle him, blow in his ear, talk to him, or undress him - better cold and naked and eating than warm and dressed and asleep. Eventually he'll get the hang of it, and you'll also stop being in so much pain. If it's really painful, you may have latching problems. See a lactation consultant to make sure he's on properly.
for 1 that is a very cute name. I had problems with that and I talked to the doctor about it, he said to me that that was normal,, but i did not find it normal at all.I have a basic new born, she is 2 months old. I named her Sabrina, and my other 2 are named Christine and Marysol. Sabrina is 5 months, and Marysol is 3 fixing to be 4 months old. Please reply if I was help or was not. I will pray for you and keep you in my heart. ( friendly whise )
It's gret that your breastfeeding this will definitely give your child a great start in life, babies tend to let you know when their hungry so try to hang in there.

Any advice on getting used to living in New York City?

My friend is planning on moving there, next year for college.

She has visited many times and loves it there.

I can't relate to her because I have never lived there.

So does anyone have advice on getting used to living in New York City?

Thanks!Any advice on getting used to living in New York City?
Coming from someone who lived in Florida for the first 20 years of their life, moving to NY was an experience I could never have expected. I have been here now going on 5 years.

Don't get me wrong, I do love NY, but what a culture-shock!

The fast-paced impatience of life, the different ethnicities of it's people, the deep pride from the natives of their own city.

    It was hard to adjust.

People are too busy to care about the little insignificancies, and everyone is in a rush to get to where they got to go! You walk down the street and you find people looking down to avoid contact, they don't say hello.... I would imagine this to be common in many big cities... :\ People can be cold and rude!

My advice? Take things in stride because New Yorkers have a tendency to take you too seriously and will get offended!

Grow a backbone, or else NYC will eat you alive!

-Strong in NYC.....but relocating to Southern Cali in a month :DAny advice on getting used to living in New York City?
ive never lived there but both my parents are from brooklyn

all they ever say is its noisy and its an different world down there

    good luck!
No worries. Getting adapted to life in NYC will take less time than you think. You'll spend more time worrying about it actually! When you get there and somewhat settled, take a walk, ride or tour around town. Have something to eat. Ask questions from local merchants. You'll be surprised how many will want to help you out. The part about life being fast paced, cutthroat and maniacal is true. Again you'll adapt. Keep your wits about you and learn the lifestyle. Once you figure out that's there not much you can do about it, like NY traffic, the rest falls into place. Navigating your way around town is easy once your accustomed to it. There's no shortage of transportation. If you do own a car, get ready to pay extraordinary high prices to park it. Prices for everything are high in NYC, but you should expect that. In all, life in NYC really is OK and you'll end up loving it and the city too.
OK, I'm gonna do this in list form, I live in NYC, have for the past few years, and here are some thoughts:

    First off:

NYC is not as bad as you think. Not as noisy, dangerous or expensive.

Rich people complain about how expensive it is, poor people rejoice in how cheap it is.

NYC is full of real people and it is full of phonies. Which are you?

Get rid of your car. it is a liability, and you will get nowhere fast with it. You will get tickets and it will get stolen, and you will still have to pay tickets on your stolen car.

You will be amazed at how fast you get used to not driving.

Don't be mean to panhandlers and homeless people. They were here first and their situation is exponentially worse than yours. And most of them are not lying.

It is far better to offer help to someone who might not be worthy of it than to withhold it form someone who might be worthy.

    Don't be afraid to smile.

There is lots of cheap fun here

Central park is the best. So is Prospect Park and Inwood Hill Park.

The cheapest boat ride in the harbor is the Staten Island Ferry. it's free.

You wont be able to bank the money you save by not having a car. You will spend it on housing.

Nobody moves to NYC because it's clean

We measure rats here in terms of beverage containers:

    Small baby rat: V8 can

    Small adult rat: beer can

Average sized rat: 16 oz bottle

    Large rat: 1 liter bottle

Very large rat: 2 liter bottle

huge rat; 3 liter bottle (yes we have them here!)

rat watching off the subway platform is fun.

it is considered polite to leave your newspaper on the subway for the next person to read, if you are done with it.

Your favorite restaurant has probably been cited a few times by the board of health. Don't worry about it.

There is no north or south. it is uptown and downtown.

You will get very tired of seeing film crews on your block (but it is kind of cool to see your building in Law %26amp; Order) Mine has been in it a few times!

If you are friendly and be yourself, you will make a lot of friends here. If you try to be someone you are not, you will make a lot of fake friends here.

Get good shoes. You will be walking a lot.

The food here is really cheap, and really good. Except in Midtown Manhattan. There it is overpriced.

Forget Seinfeld. Forget Sex %26amp; The City. it's not really like that.

People everywhere else are proud of how much stuff they have. New Yorkers are proud of how little stuff they have.

New York winters are cold %26amp; sloppy, New York summers are brutally hot. New York springs and falls are beautiful.

The New York Public Library is your friend.

Real Estate brokers will lie, cheat, and are generally out to screw you. They should be drowned like rats in a bucket of water!

It's ok to drink the water here....it's actually really good.

Keep your MetroCard in the same place (I like to use my left back pocket)

Welcome to New York.....We're not as bad as all that!

business link is the best place to start, their website is excellent and you can also speak to an adviser in person if you wish, they can advise you on the laws affecting your business http://www.businesslink.gov.uk (also ask them for a copy of the cobweb guide to the business you are in - you can search for it here http://www.scavenger.net/home.php?cat=10鈥?/a> but business link can give you a copy for free, the guides really are excellent and tell you about the law in that area as well as how to market/promote your type of business)

make sure you order a copy of this free business start-up kit, it's produced by the government/business link and covers issues of red tape and more http://www.newbusiness-newlife.com/newbu鈥?/a>

Any advice on buying a new home in a subdivision, I am pre-approved through my credit union,#1should I go?

    FHA or E-loans online

#2 The salesman at the model home said they don't negotiate price, Is that normal?

#3 Should I get someone to represent me to negotiate price?

#4 Should I get a mortgage broker?Any advice on buying a new home in a subdivision, I am pre-approved through my credit union,#1should I go?
    1. I would go FHA or another program with your credit union or other local lender.

    2. It all depends on your market. During the past few years when the craziness was happening it was a seller's market where buyers had few options because there weren't that many homes available. In my market now there are lots and lots of homes for sale and not that many buyers, so even builders (who in the past got full asking price for their homes) are now negotiating.

    3. I would definitely get a buyer agent to represent you in the transaction. You don't mention if the builder has listed his homes with a real estate agent. If he is selling directly to the public, you still need an experienced and knowledgeable agent who can guide you through the transaction and represent your interests in negotiating not only the price but other terms of the purchase. The builder may not like it, but I firmly believe in professional representation for the purchase of a home, one of the largest investments that most of us ever make.

In addition, it's important that you get everything in writing including all of the choices you are making for what will be in your home (i.e. countertops, colors of paint, flooring, etc.). A buyer agent can help you with this, as well as to insert some protections for you in the contract (i.e. if the builder doesn't perform as agreed).

Builders who sell directly to the public often have contracts that they use with buyers, which are very favorable to them, but which don't protect the buyer very well if something goes wrong.

Another thing your buyer agent can do is to do a market analysis for the subdivision where you intend to purchase your home to determine how much similar homes have been selling for in the past 6 months. This is what an appraiser will look at when determining the value of the home. Mostly builders will want full price, but depending on the terms of the contract, they may take less. It varies according to the builder and the particular situation.

    4. Your buyer agent can also help you find a reputable local lender for your FHA loan. Your credit union may also be able to do this type of loan for you, and may give you the best rates. However, it doesn't hurt to shop around. Your credit union may also have programs and mortgage products that are more favorable to you than FHA.

Generally mortgage brokers charge more fees than banks or credit unions so your closing costs may be higher.

Hope this helps.Any advice on buying a new home in a subdivision, I am pre-approved through my credit union,#1should I go?
FHA is the best loan type especially if your a first time homebuyer. E-loans just broker your information to a bunch of different lenders. You may only need that if there are credit issues. See the 2 websites below that may help
    FHA for certain

If you are willing to chance not getting the house, tell them, I am willing to pay you X amount and no more. See what they say

    A real estate agent

No mortgage broker, go to a bank and ask if they do FHA loans and fill out an application with one who does

have fun and enjoy everything.Refreshments will cost a bundle and merchandise is priced the same as on WWE Shop. You will have a great time.
If your kid is small enough put him up on your shoulders or he won't be able to see very much unless you have ring side seats. My son recently went to a wwe match and you couldn't get a view worth a hoot for all the people putting their hands in the air, standing up and for all the darn posters and signs people wave every where. He loved it but wished he'd have been able to see better. One word of advise on cameras.... Forget able the one time use cameras. These places are so lit up that they don't atke good pics at all. invest in a really good digital camera with smart scene that adjust itself for your surroundings. But most of all injoy the time you spend with your son. If he boo's you boo. If he whoops and hollers you do it too. HAVE A BALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
House shows are VERY family freindly(compared to RAW, or SD), and are VERY fun the first time you go see a wrestling event. House shows are used to make an extra buck or two, and to let superstars ';practice'; with eachother, so people don't get bored watching the same thing every week. The only advice I can think of is make sure you have fun, and make the best out of it.
Bring a camera not a camcorder because they don't allow it, also bring like 30 to 40 dollars for food, drinks, shirts, if you have good seats make a sign hope this helps and remeber go to the bathroom before the show starts have a good show!!!
we went not to long ago. eat before you get there. everything is expensive. don't use a one time camera i did and didn't get the first picture that was worth a flip. we had a problem with a lady holding a blow up finger in front of us so it was hard to see. also those posters make it hard to see if you on the floor but other wise we had a good time and would go again . take you son to he restroom before the show starts once the lights go out make it hard to find your seats again and you don't want to miss a thing]
    Bring a camera! Have fun!
If you can get a seat in any of the firsttwo or three rows , you should probably be ok .... an Isle seat for your son would be GREAT .

Defiantely bring a camera ... you'll want pics for your son to take to school and show his friends ....

Don't forget ... Bathroom before you take your seat ..and $$$ for refreshments .... HAVE FUN !!!
i dont think you will see anything ur kids shouldnt see unless it was live which it wont be

I was hoping to get a couple new jackets and need some advice/recommendations?

I'm just looking for some advice on what jackets I should get. I've always wanted a jacket with fur around the top of the hood so if you could recommend one of them that would be great. But if you can't, don't worry about it. And obviously, have a bit of variety in the 2 jackets. Don't show me 2 jackets that are the exact same except for the colour.I was hoping to get a couple new jackets and need some advice/recommendations?

Any Advice for New Mothers to be?

How do you take care of a new born baby? This would be my first child so i don鈥檛 really know a lot. Do you know of any good websites that i can have a look at? Any advice would be great. Thanks in advance.Any Advice for New Mothers to be?
    Taken from various websites:

When baby naps...mommy naps. Dishes, vacuuming, laundry can all be done when baby is awake. For at least the first few months, mommy needs her rest too.

Never let the baby sleep in the bed with the parents because you can smother them.

Please don't smoke in the same room with baby because it can cause the baby breathing problems/asthma.

Keep a baby journal. Write down each new thing you baby does, and your thoughts about the baby each day. (that is something I wish I had done, its more personal than a baby book)

Use a red washcloth for boo-boos. A kid will cry less if they can't see the blood you're washing off.

    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?鈥?/a>

Rock-a-bye Baby: The best piece of advice I received, was how to get a new baby to go to sleep. It works like a charm. When you put your baby to bed, put a light cloth over his eyes (not the nose) and the cloth will work to eliminate visual stimulation. Most of the time, this is what prevents new babies from falling asleep. Once you baby falls asleep, remove the cloth. Works every time.

    http://parenting.kaboose.com/age-and-sta鈥?/a>

Take breaks from taking care of the baby as and when you can. When you do so, don't feel guilty, as it is necessary for your mental and physical well being.

    Have your meals regularly.

Make sure you include fresh fruits and green vegetables in your meals.

Use pre-prepared foods to reduce time and energy spent on cooking.

If friends and family are willing to take over some of your chores, allow them to do so.

Your night's sleep will be disturbed in the initial days. So learn to sleep whenever your baby sleeps.

If there is a local support group for new mothers, it would be a good idea to join it or at least attend a few meetings.

    http://www.qtpiebaby.com/advice.asp

Establish a routine. Your baby needs to be able to count on certain activities occurring around the same time each day. Feeding, naps, fun and affection should be a part of every schedule.

Nobody can teach you how to be a parent. You will learn on the job. Trust your instincts. Nobody knows your baby better than you.Any Advice for New Mothers to be?
make sure you nap when they nap

try to keep the baby up from 6pm to 10 or 11pm then put the baby to bed. this will hopefully help the baby understand that it's sleeping time

make sure you have lots of diapers and baby wipes before the baby is born

babys don't need a bath everyday. just wipe them down with a clean warm cloth if needed.

be very careful when giving babys a bath, they get slippery. make sure you have a baby bath tub.

get a bouncer....my son loved it. it vibrates and plays music and it's light. you can move it around the house easily.

go to all the websites and register as a new mom. (johnson and johnson, enfamil, similac, huggies, pampers. etc.) you'll get coupons ands samples.

I don't know any specific websites, but i'm pretty sure the hospital that you will be having the baby at will have more information

have some granny pads ready for after birth.

i used TUCKS medicated pads for cleaning and healing down there.

i used HOT PADS (large) I attached it to the outside of my underwear and the warmth of the pads help heal down there faster

make sure your husband doesn't pressure you to have sex too soon. you will know when you are ready. Both of you have to TALK and express your feelings.

    I wish you the best

    every baby is special
    here are the basics...

you are going to be in a lot of pain after the delivery...be prepared to feel like crap for at least 3 days post partum. take pain meds, it won't hurt the baby if you breast feed.

breastfeed directly after giving birth...(if you plan to) your going to feel WEIRD whipping your breast out and trying to use it for something you've never done before, especially in front of the nurse/doctor/ husband...but just start getting used to it...ask for help if you don't know what your doing...and you probably won't.

breastfeeding hurts. sometimes...a LOT...but its worth it. it takes about 2 months - YES MONTHS to get in a good swing of things/not feel pain (at least a little) everytime the baby eats...but after 2 months its easy and so worth it!

first 2 months...let the baby sleep, don't feel like your being a bad mom cuz your baby is sleeping a lot...that is what they are supposed to do! when they wake up, they are hungry...no need to wonder what the baby is crying for...he/she is hungry! change the diaper, feed the baby and he/she will probably go to sleep.

pretty much change diaper/feed/sleep...that is the whole life of the baby for the first 2 months...but don't worry...it will pick up fast, the baby will start doing more and believe it or not, you won't be changing 8 to 15 diapers a day for the rest of your life!

BURP BURP BURP too...make sure your burping all the time, or you'll get a gassy cranky baby...which magically ALWAYS seems to happen at night, when you are ready to hit the hay!

    good luck.
Get your newborn on a good sleep schedule. So you can start to get yourself some sleep asap. In the beginning you will be feeding every two hours but around three months the baby will sleep a little longer. Give the baby a bath every night before bed and have a nice mellow routine to prepare. Have play time at the same time everyday. A solid schedule will really help your baby and you more than you know.

    Get:

    Miracle Swaddling Blanket

My Brest Friend (breast feeding pillow that snaps on)

Travel Set (stroller + carseat) carseat will unsnap with sleeping baby and snap right into your stroller for easy travel.
First thing to do is get as many books, videos and internet sites that you can get your hands on. Ask any friends or family about having kids. Next I would definately invest in a camera and scrap book...to record your baby bump and the progress. (I hate the fact that it totally didn't occur to me until after I was like 38 weeks!)

I like you had little if any experience...and since I live in China and my family is in Los Angeles there was even more reason for me to freak. But I got through it pretty well, so it should be a piece of cake for you.

www.babycenter.com has a great week by week update they email to you about your week up until the baby is 2 years old...and they have really good forums where you can ask all those 'stupid' questions floating around your head.

www.parentsweekly.com was ok but I didn't really like it. Also Answers is a great place to get some instant feed back...so long as you ignore the 'zealots'.
listen to your instincts, the best advice I got was that all babies are different and dont stress about strict routines just follow your babies cues.
Hi there :) Congrats!! Well, all I have to say is enjoy and love every minute!! They grow TOO fast!! Oh and get a boppy pillow! Best invention ever!

Advice on care for my new baby rooster?

No, I'm not joking. I just got a baby rooster. His name is Buzz. It's not a hatchling or anything, it's just young. I'm going to raise it, but I've never had a chicken before and I don't know what to do other than feed it and water it. Anything else I should know?Advice on care for my new baby rooster?
    that's funny.

I have either three or four roosters, they live outside during the day and in the chicken house at night.

You just feed them, water them and let them go.

My favorite rooster is ';Big Head'; he is an araucana. I bought him in a ';backyard special'; from one of the poultry companies for my daughter's birthday.

When we came back from the post office with the box of chicks and baby ducks....we opened the box and there was this baby chick that towered over the others by a head and he was white and had a big poofed hairdo...so we named him ';Big Head';.

Big head is grown now and knows his name.

When I come in from work every morning, he comes running to be fed.

He has a son that is half grown--his name?

    ';Son of Big Head';.

~~Enjoy your rooster !Advice on care for my new baby rooster?
young birds can become easily trainable not that u want much with a rooster to sit on your shoulder come to you when you call it we have an old batam rooster he used to stay close by the dog day in day out until the dog died now we have 2 young cats and he is joining up with them he thinks he is a dog i m sure he follws you around bla bla they dont take that much looking after just make sure he has a safe spot to sleep and the dogs dont get to him so long as he is safe you should have a good little friend there they do have personalities too believe it or not and he will keep the [place clear of spider too

I have two older cats that I need to find a good home for, any advice on how to find their new home?

I just moved from San Francisco to NY and can no longer have my cats. They are about 8 yrs old and so sweet and affectionate.

I want to find them a good home and avoid taking them to a shelter. I have asked around to some people I know in NY but am not getting much of a response. Any ideas on where to go?I have two older cats that I need to find a good home for, any advice on how to find their new home?
You can look up foster care groups in the area and see if they have room to take 2 adult cats.

I must say though it is disappointing to hear people talking about how they ';can no longer'; keep their pets because of moves, or whatever. A responsible pet owner doesn't just give away their pets whenever it has become inconvenient for them....a good pet owner makes arrangements that also includes the pets. If you're moving, then you find a pet-friendly area to move to, etc. Pets these days are just thrown away too easily and it is sad.I have two older cats that I need to find a good home for, any advice on how to find their new home?
Advertise, but be careful they don't end up with someone who will sell them for experimentation. Please can't you keep them!! They will miss you so much and they won't understand what has happened to them. Ask around where you go to work or school. You may find a no kill shelter.I am sorry, this makes me very sad.
Yes, your cats will really miss you. Did you know animals have a time for sorrow too? They will be sad. I suggest you move to another apartment and stick with them! Aww, l feel so bad for you! Please, find a way to keep them. If not, then give them to a family, a friend, or a family friend. If they won't take in either, then a NON-KILL Shelter is the best bet.

l will pray for your kitties, and GOOD LUCK!!!

Im looking to get a new laptop and I need some advice?

I would like to get a new laptop laptop primarily for school work, movies, photos and a bit of gaming but I would like to be able to play some of the high graphics games like crysis. I've considered a macbook pro but I don't mind a mac or a pc, preferably under 拢1000 but if its worth it I don't mind going over.Im looking to get a new laptop and I need some advice?
MacBook and MacBook Pro are great for schoolwork, movies, and photo editing. You can buy some extra applications to enhance those features. I perfer the 2.4 GhZ model MacBook. Here's the link.Im looking to get a new laptop and I need some advice?
im in the same situation and im looking to use it for the same things as you. so far ive found two options. a Dell XPS Studio 13. and a 2.0ghz unibody macbook.

those two seem the most promising out of all the other ones ive researched. however, both have major flaws.

the macbook's flaw is the price. its just simply overpriced for what they give you

the dell's flaw is the ventilation. after reading countless number of reviews, the conclusion ive come to is that the ventilation is very poor. ive read hands on reviews where the heat coming from under the screen was so bad that there was discoloration in the LCD screen.

both however, can be overlooked. the macbook's flaw of being overpriced can be overlooked by the simple sexiness-factor. its just pleasant to look at. also OSX is phenomenal. so easy to use and very fast.

the dell's problem can be solved quiet easily.. dont do TOO much stuff on it. i wont be watching movies on it, so the dvd drive will be fairly inactive. i wont be playing games that require too much from the laptop, so that should keep the temperature of the laptop down, which means the ventilation problem wouldnt be much of a problem.

but either way, investing in a new laptop is hard work. i hope you decide on what to get... ive been stuck on what to get for like a year now lol. im going to a new university this fall, so i NEED to get it soon. gluck to you
This should fit the bill: http://www.alienware.com/products/notebo鈥?/a>

Prices for the most affordable model starts at 1,099.00 USD which = 760.189 GBP at the moment and the top new model starts at 1,499.00 USD (or 1,036.82 GBP).

They have four model lines in order of cost:

    1) Area-51庐 m15x (15.4-inch) Single GPU / Core鈩? Duo

    2) Area-51庐 m9750 (17-inch) SLI庐 / Core鈩? Duo

    3) M17 (17-inch) CrossFireX鈩?/ Core鈩? Quad (New Model)

    4) Area-51庐 m17x (17-inch) SLI庐 / Core鈩? Duo

Alienware is a company that used to be independent but has now been bought by Dell.

Don't let people tell you that it is no good because it is Dell, because technically they don't make the machines, they just own the company.

Just check with them to see if they sell to the UK.

What's the best piece of advice you can think of for a new manager?

I've never been a manager before and I'm really nervous I won't be a good one. What's the one best piece of advice you can give to a newbie manager before she starts her new career?

This can be answered by people who have been managers or by people who have worked under managers. What's the best piece of advice you can think of for a new manager?
Focus on the positives of being a good manager. To be a manager is to lead a team. A good team leader must have key traits like integrity, peopleskills, vision, passion for the job, humility to apologise when you are wrong and the wisdom to accept your juniors' input.

You will gain credibility, respect, and importantly , cooperation from yr team. After all, leadership is about the ability to influence ppl to do what you want them to do.

Read articles here on how to be an effective leader in a workplaceWhat's the best piece of advice you can think of for a new manager?
as amanager..every thing you do ..do it with passion...remember this
try not to change anything at first. Wait it out. Nothing aggravates me more than someone new coming in and trying to change everything on their first day.
Yes, I agree with above. Don't change anything right away. Get the lay of the land first. I think the most important thing to do is set your expectations. Let everyone know your expectations, let them know your values and your goals.
Listen to your employees and respect their opinions. That doesn't mean you have to agree with them, or follow their suggestions, but listen and consider them.
to be friendly but not friends with your underlings. That is the hardest thing to learn as a manager because you want to be friends but you really can't be, but you can be friendly. Just keep your own business to yourself and don't get involved with your employees personal business.
';Listen and respond with empathy.'; I've always remembered that quote from a managment course I took fifteen years ago. Problems are so much more easily addressed if you put yourself in the employees shoes first, and then develop your responses. Employees (self included) can handle almost anything if they know they were heard.

    Congratulations on your new job!
First off be confident . Do not be afraid to ask questions of your subordinates..If this is a job that you were promoted to a higher level you should know the workings of the business etc. If not ask questions. Be friendly but you are not there to make friends, Be fair. Do not join in gossip, Be a leader, show you know how to help (as I am not sure what kind of business this is I have to make it general)

Leave your door open to have employees come to you with problems. Keep them confidential, do not talk down to them.

Document, document document. If problems arise you have a history of person or problem and can prove your case or ask for help in that area.

For example: I f you work at Target, you can help a cashier, or a floor employee if they are behind on their job or seem to be harassed with a customer. Do not take the employee's attitude personally, not everyone will like you or your decisions. Try to be fair . Work a little longer and harder than those around you. Keep a low profile with fellow managers till you figure out what is happening.

Not easy but you will be fine...
Expect your workers will depend on you and you need to be able to do what is necessary.
Be patient, because people are getting used to a new boss.

You may make them nervous. Do not let them take advantage of you such as calling in. People will test you.Try to be flexible with schedules.
    Gear Up !

    Pull your Socks

    and Take a Plunge

Understand the management here and see If it extremely needs .corrective measures.

If it doesn't maintain the status Quo.

    Cheers!
I'll tell you one thing, it's hard being a manager. So much to do and so little time. Just remember that you aren't going to please everyone all the time. Someone is bound to be unhappy at one point or another and that's ok. Just do your best and don't be afraid to admit when your wrong or ask for help. Some things you can do to build a good relationship with your employees is to listen to them whenever they have questions or concerns, let them voice their opinions, try to be sensitive to others feelings, communicate - have a dialog (don't always be barking out orders), tell your employees what you expect from them so they don't have to guess.

All of these are good ideas. Don't get overwhelmed with trying to ';do it all'; because you'll get burned out really fast. You sound like a good person, I'm sure you'll do fine.

    Good Luck!

What advice do any veteran teachers have for the new teacher?

I want to be more specific here and ask what would you say to a new young teacher getting into the profession as far as the planning of retirement? What they should do now (when they begin teaching) for the future? Any special programs given to teachers as far as home buying, loans, and anything of the sort?

Should the new teacher do anything as far as education to further their wage, etc.?What advice do any veteran teachers have for the new teacher?
Good for you - I wish I had started sooner.

My union (in New Zealand) has a retirement saving scheme that we can pay into straight from our paycheck. The government matches contributions up to 3%.

Check with your district and your union to see if there is anything like that.

I don't know of any programs such as you list for help with home buying etc. Wouldn't that be nice!

At the moment in the US, pay increases are linked to education. This may not always be the case, but it is always useful to learn more as a teacher. What advice do any veteran teachers have for the new teacher?

I need advice on a new bedding set!?

I am looking at a beautiful blue and chocolate brown bedding set on ebay. I just love that color combo, but I'm not sure how that will look with my bedroom set, which is a honey oak. All the pictures I see of blue and brown bedding sets are against a cherry or black headboard. Do you think it will look OK? I hate to be the winning bidder, get it in the mail and have it look awful!I need advice on a new bedding set!?
I agree, that color combination is wonderful. I think it will look alright. It will probably bring out more of the brown tones that your headboard has. Go for it, and good luck bidding. I hope you don't have too much competition, so you can get it at a reasonable price.I need advice on a new bedding set!?
I say ';go for it';! I have beautiful chocolate colored walls in my bedroom, and honey oak furniture. Though my accent color is dark red, the chocolate with the furniture looks great. To help the furniture ';fit'; with the bold color, I brought in wrought iron elements (frames, a side table, a lamp) that helps add some ';modern'; to my not so modern honey oak set. Hope this helps!
You won't know until you try it. But it sounds good to me. I would think the chocolate brown with blue would be beautiful against the honey oak.
I always regard wood as a neutral - like hardwood floors or baseboards, so IMHO any color will coordinate with whatever wood furniture you have.
Before placing a bid I would get some wrapping paper of those colours and rest them on the bed, I would get Ivory,Tan and blue they would look better with the light wood ,
    Well i would just order it then see if it matches. If it doesn't sell it again on ebay%26gt;

Any advice for a new wife heading to Korea?

My husband is being stationed in Korea and we found out last week that we got command sponsorship and that I can go with him. We are extremely excited but I am also very nervous. Does anyone have any advice or know anything I should expect when i get thereAny advice for a new wife heading to Korea?
Yes, save money to buy cases of mosquitoe repellent. Purchase and ship at least ten cases of surgical masks to keep the odor of Kimchi and garlic breath from reaching your brain, and yes, it is Everywhere, no where to run, no where to hide. Learn where the anti American demonstrations are being held each day and avoid those areas whenever possible. Go to the Dragon hotel and get your butt kicked by thirty korean women when you want to play a slot machine. Learn to enjoy two TV channels, AFNK and Sky News network. When your husband finally arrives home after work you will get used to the phone ringing telling him to come right back, its another alert, ergo a self sufficient wife you will become. Learn how far to stray up Itaewon hill, there is shopping and then there is prostitution. (See penalty for playing slot machines). Other than that it is a great time. The fun I had during my last tour made me put in my retirement papers the moment I got to what turned out to be my last duty station in the States.Any advice for a new wife heading to Korea?
Everything is in English/korean, I only got lost on a the subway once. Watch out for the korean liquor So-ju, you think you are still sober and you stand up and you can't walk. Watch out for the pakistans down there, I never trusted them, I thought they were gonna steal me and put me in the sex slave industry. Otherwise you should already knwo about the red light districts and never go there anyways, there should be great things to buy just off each post, they had a great bus system on base that went to each post. Great diving thru MWR. In Yongson I walked ot the tower to eat. You will see it when you get to the post at yongson. There is MCdonalds and KFC there in the city of Korea and I loved to taste the korean food a bit spicy so watch out for that.
If authorized put really big items into storage except for things you will need right away.

Make sure that you do have power adaptors (for the plugs and for converting) as things in Asia are usually 220V not 110V. Some places will give you adaptors in your house or even can be 110V there but if housing is crowded you might need to live out in town. They will give you some adaptors. Things like TVs, DVDs are alright usually, just check the back. One other thing is make sure your TV is NTSC/PAL that way it can work on any system.

Stock up on certain canned or boxed food products that you can find where you are. Sometimes at the overseas commissaries you can't always get stuff.

Clothing can sometimes be a problem as well if you are a larger size, so can shoe sizes as Asians are smaller. This doesn't though happen in all places and if you have an exchange it does help but sometimes it can be frustrating as there is limits.

Make sure you have an up to date Driver's License before you go. You cannot always renew it online with some states so if it expires you can be screwed. A US Driver's License is usually required to get a International DL. Be careful when driving there are some people who throw themselves in front of vehicles to chase away demons and it can be a mess. If you have a car, make sure you have a camera with you so if there is damage to either car in an accident you can show it. Sometimes people will try and take you to the cleaners.

Go with an open mind, you can have a great time if you take the chance to really see the country and take in the culture. Try things at least once when it comes to food. You never know you might like it. Get out and see things, don't just stay home. Visit not just Korea but go to Japan, China, Thailand, Philippines, etc.. if you can. Learn some basic Korean words at first then see if they offer classes on base or somewhere close by. It can help out a lot and it is showing them respect.
NWIP has the best and most practical advice. There might not be enough space for all your things, so yes put as much as you can in storage. If you have a big truck or SUVs, make sure there's enough space (driving and parking). Good luck and have fun!
um... i'm assuming you're going to Seoul? (definately South Korea?)

i grew up in Seoul, South Korea and came to the US 7 years ago. Seoul is an AMAZING place. it's like New York with less people. learn korean, if you don't already, and engage in the society. it's not that much different than US if you can understand what's going on
Have a great and safe trip it's beautiful over there .The Korean peoples are very friendly just don't drink the water and watch what you eat .
