Anyone have any advice for a new goalie?

Im a new goalie for a High School girls soccer team. advice would be much apreciated.Anyone have any advice for a new goalie?
I once had to learn to be a goalie and the process is hard but fruitful. Alright, first things first. Basic stuffs.

Handling a ball, when you're catching a ball, best catch it with your hands in W position \\v v// (v being the thumb)- making a nice cupped shape to enhance grip.

Reaction, eyes focused on the ball - when the ball starts to strike; react immediately to which direction its going (after lots of practice you'll notice that the ball moves at a slower pace - eyes actually reacting faster; improving reaction with the body).

Diving, practice jumping sideways landing on arms (shoulder to elbow) by the side of your body or thighs as cushions for your body, on the bed. Gradually bring it to the field instead, remembering the steps of leap, save, cushion, break-fall.

Punching, punch with your hands grip tight; wont hurt like this.

Ready position - Elbows bent, knees bent slightly, tip toe a lil, will be easier to react this way as your body will be more flexible at this position.

Positioning - During practice, form a nice semi-circle using small cones or markings, with the start and end at each post. Ask a team mate to dribble around the semi-circle making sure that she's probably a few meters away from you. You will then be always at the edge of the semi-circle; following the target. At any point of dribbling; she may shoot. You will find that you covered most of her angles to shoot; hence easier to save a shot.

Lots of drills and practice, and you can enjoy being an important player of the team.

All the best. :)

Oh yeah, please state if my explanations are too.. complicated.Anyone have any advice for a new goalie?
well lets see first off get into good physical shape. trust me it helps. then all you need is practice. find a friend ball and goal and work on your keeping skills and long shots and pk's
not gonna b easy. you gotta phys-out the shooter into screwing up.
good luck! and congratulations!

football is all heart so be passionate about your games.
Of cuz, practice, you have to practice lots. Why? Because unless you are born with quickness and height, the only thing you can do is to get use to the position.

Position: You have to know where you are standing and where would be the best place to cover the net. Usually, the best position is keeping your back facing the middle of the net. So the quicker way to learn your positioning, is to use a rope, tie the rope between your body and the middle of the net (rope has to be long enough that you can go out about 8 -10 yd.)

Handling: Remember you don't have to catch every ball, cuz you can't (unless the ball is shooting straight at you, or very weak). Make you own decision to push the ball out or to catch it. If facing a hard shot straight, DO NOT use the hand to push it over the net, but instead use your arm. cuz it could break your waists if the shot was too hard.

One-on-One: Come out to face the opponent and have to arms open wide to get ready to take a ball in your face (or anyway the opponent shoot) on One-On-One situation.

Rushing: Make you own decision, and know the speed of others. If you see the opponent is having trouble in controlling the ball, that's the best time to rush out. Slide all the way to the ground and crouch as soon as you make contact with the ball.

Well, I can only tell you this much for start. There is lots of fun excerises you could do as training camp in summer, Join One. And Good Luck, Hope you do when, WOW!! One important thing, always protect your body at all time (Jump with one knee up).
Don't ever take your eyes off the ball, this way you will see the plays forming. Good luck.
learn how to read the game. and get comfortable with your backline. know when to come out, stay back, etc...
