What piece of advice would you give to a new driver?

What piece of advice would you give to someone just about to start learning how to drive?

Thanks for any answers. What piece of advice would you give to a new driver?
My driving instructor gave the best advice ever - treat everyone else on the road as if they were a complete idiot!

(Most of them are at one time or another - I should probably include myself in that!)What piece of advice would you give to a new driver?
No cell phone, buckle up, no passengers for 90 days!
it is so easy to get carried away %26amp; keep your leg on the accelerator but take it easy, when i first started driving i liked speed, i ended up crashing my car (first of many to crash) which i had just put a full body kit on, no mobile phone %26amp; no drink driving-too dangerous
get a car
Treat everyone else is a learner driver. I've driving for over 25 years!!
S.A.F.E sobriaty attitude fatique education
Stay off the pavement
to be cautious and stick to the speed limits.

you learn more every day you drive, even after you passed your test. Its all just practice.
Keep lots of distance between you and the car in front and watch your speed. That way, you have time to react to any situation.

Also, allow plenty of time for any journey. That way, you'll be more relaxed and there will be less pressure.
Be aware of other drivers who have no time for learners I think they forget they had to learn once, they take stupid chances to overtake and can make you feel uneasy by driving too close!!! Take Care I do not envy you
Don't take s**t off other drivers, they'll always take the p**s. Nothing like a bit of road rage to cheer you up in the morning! Oh and never make assumptions about what the car in front is about to do, you may go into the back of them!
get insurance
take driving lessons because if you have parents like mine you'll get yelled at more than actually learning lol
try not to hit the metal square things with 4 wheels that are all over the place, and definitely don't hit the 2 legged things that are wondering all around
Keep out of my f*cking way!
DONT DRINK AND DRIVE i did, got banned for a year nd it was the worst year ever having to use busses again, depend on pople to pick u up etc. plus u hav to sit your test again and unlearn all those bad habbits u picked up!!!!
take notice of the road and other users
Stay off the cell phone!
well for one dont drink and drive,or speed.especialy at the same time.always keep your eyes on the road.watch out for old folks they dont know how to drive.gas is on the right and brake on the left side of the gas.clutch to the left of brake. :-)
Only a fool breaks the two second rule.

(Don't drive up the **** of the car in front.)
You don't need our advice assuming you are learning from a professional driving instructor. Other than that don't crash Lol.
i'm a bus driver my only advice is treat other road users as you would expect them to treat you with a lot of patience
Stay calm, concentrate, remember that your driving instructor is there for you !Don't allow other drivers to intimidate you !
good luck
tracy has the best answer it has worked for me for 50+years
Keep using Your indicators, even when You pass, and don't hold up traffic by going lower than the speed limit.
Buy the motorcycle handbook from HMSO (It is perfect for car drivers and motorcycle riders and costs about 拢15), generated for the Police. Read it through to get a full understanding about how to be a great driver. Once you have passed your test read a few pages and practice them until you do the instructions without concious effort. Read a few more pages and do the same thing. Keep doing this until you finish the book and then refresh regularly. It takes a few short months to implement everything, and the rest of your life to maintain it, but it is absolutely worth it. I did this and I have had no accidents, fines, convictions, points or anything for over 20 years in both my cars and my motorcycles. That is approximately 1/4 million miles at 12000'ish' miles per year. You will realise issues and have escape plans even before they potentially arise. A safe driver is not necessarily a slow driver, just an intelligent one. Learn the basic mechanics of your vehicle so that you have sympathy for how your vehicle works. My final point is that driving safely is about time. It takes time for you to stop, accelerate, etc., so improving and widening your observation in front AND behind buys you time and makes you a better driver. You need to know where everybody is around you and your mind subconciously stores this, making fight or flight decisions safer. Relax, read the book, do what it says and you will be a great, safe driver.
don't crash
hi. very good question. i would stick to the laws. your insurance premium is very high when you insure your first car. so i would do everything in your power to obey the laws. safe driving means no claims bonus (NCB) this will reduce your insurance premiums and the longer you are with your insurer without making a claim the more your insurance will decrease. p.s if you don't care about your insurance cost obey the laws for the sake of everybody else and yourself. remember your not the only one trying to be careful and avoid bad things happening on the roads
SLOW DOWN!! You don't have to go like you are on the way to a fire!

Stay alert...don't let the normal distractions get the best of you...Cell Phones...CD's...the radio...friends.

Always know what is going on ALL AROUND YOU...in front, behind, and beside you.

When you change lanes, or turn, check beside you and SIGNAL before you start your change of direction.

Know where the ';NO ZONE'; is on trucks, and stay out of it!!

And again USE YOUR SIGNALS!!

Learn how to DIM YOUR LIGHTS!!

Be careful, enjoy, and Good Luck!
stay calm. its a lot to take in. slow and steady, slow is smooth. good luck.

p.s one day you'll actually enjoy driving it can be fun.
