Any advice for a new Yorkie owner?

I just bought a Yorkie today (picking up soon) and I need some tips to make sure I'm doing everything right!

- How do I bathe her? How often?

- When can I start taking her out for walks? (She's about 7-8 weeks old)

- How do I keep from ';stressing'; her?

Any other advice would be great!

Thank you!Any advice for a new Yorkie owner?
Congrats on your new addition to your family.

As to:

Bathing: If she's dirty or smells, she needs a bath, otherwise, it isn't necessary and could cause skin problems. She'll need daily brushing if you plan to let her hair grow out. Always brush out tangles and mats before bathing, else they get worse when wet. Bathing is quite simple, kitchen sink works great, look for a good conditioning dog shampoo. Keep water and soap out of her ears and eyes. When blow drying, always keep a hand between her and the dryer, so you'll be sure not to burn her, if it's too hot for your hand, it's too hot for her skin.

After she's fully vaccinated, it's safe to take her out walking.

As to stress, don't change her food right away, save that for later, be sure to ask the breeder what she's currently eatting, and perhaps for a sample until you can get some more. Other than that, lots of love and cuddles. And if you plan to crate train, wear an old shirt for a day, and put that in her crate, your scent will help comfort her!

Good luck. Just remember, she's a baby, and will be for a few more months yet. If you're completely new to puppies, might want to get a book about them, so you'll understand how to deal with her chewing, and pottying, and when to feed, train, etc.

:)

Edit: Dont watch the Dog Whisperer. That show is crap, and won't do you anygood for building a trusting relationship with your new pup. Positive reenforcement goes a lot farther than being a bully.Any advice for a new Yorkie owner?
you can bathe your yorkie every week or month depending on you but if you want to bath her every week, you have to use a really mild shampoo or their hair will dry out soon.

you can use a pail of water fill it to your yorkie legs not more then that then you can start bathing dont let the water get into her ears and after bathing just wet your hands and clean her face

dont take her out for walks till she gets her 3 vaccinations or else she will get flu or virus easily and as their immmune system is week they tend to fall ill easily so its best to keep them in the house till 3 vacs is done

play with her often and dont beat her when shes in the wrong and let her run around the house freely and dont use loud voice when talking to her normally dogs dont get stressed out easily

hope this helps XD
Shouldn't you have researched this a little sooner? Ask your breeder (I hope) tons and tons of questions...they're used to it and they're the best source of info about your particular dog.
You should bathe her like once a week, and bathe her in the bath tub, fill up the water almost where her legs and chest meet. start letting her be used to the leash, go to the mailbox and back. dont make and loud noises to scare her.

When it comes to potty time, she cant hold her bladder for more than 8 hours. And add 1 to how ever many months she is and thats how long she can hold it.

Watch the dog whisperer on national geographic. Oh and one more thing go on to www.petfinder.com and look at all of the training videos.

Hope you have fun with your puppy!

p.s. Next time make sure to do your research.... not to sound rude or anything, its just that, the more research that you do, the happier you and your puppy will both be.
