Can anyone give me advice on transfers from JFK to New York City?

I'm off to NYC in April (I'm from England) and I'm worried about getting from the airport to my hotel which is The Wellington Hotel near Central Park. Any help/advice?

Thanks! Can anyone give me advice on transfers from JFK to New York City?
My friend, forget the taxi. At $45US, its consider highway robbery, plus you'll get stuck in Midtown traffic, believe me I know. The best and cheapest way to get to the Wellington is take the Airtrain and the subway (metro). At $7US, it cheaper and faster than a taxi.

From the terminal, take the JFK Airtrain, which is an automated train similar to the DLR in London, to Jamaica Station. Make sure you listen for the annoucement ';Jamaica Station';. At Jamaica Station, transfer to a Manhattan-bound ';E'; train (Blue Line) to 7th Avenue-53rd Street.

When you exit the subway at 7th Avenue-53rd Street, walk 2 blocks north along 7th Avenue. The Wellington Hotel is on 55th Street and 7th Avenue.

Now, I earlier stated that the fare is $7US, there is a reasons for this. At Jamaica Station you'll have to pay $5US to exit the Airtrain system and $2US to enter the metro. But once you're in Manhattan, you can buy a 7-day unlimited MetroCard for $25US and ride the metro and bus for as many times as you want under one fare for that week. Now, that's a bargain.

I hope this information was very helpful. If you have any question or need travel directions, just drop me a line by clicking on the avatar and e-mail icon on the profile.

Good luck and happy travels

There is no pleasant way to get from JFK to Manhattan, as just about every way involves a hassle or cost.

The most convenient (and fastest if the roads aren't crowded) way to get to Manhattan is still taxi, which charges a flat fare of $45 plus tolls, tip, and possible peak surcharge. But you do take your life into your hands, depending on the driver :)

The NY subway system also has an ';Airtran'; connection via the subway ($7) or Long Island Rail Road ($12). See this website for details. http://www.mta.info/mta/airtrain.htm

Enjoy NY!!
There are many ways. You could take a taxi(that might cost alot though) you could have a car service arranged, take the bus, or you could take the air train at JFK to Penn Station and take the subway to the hotel.
jfk is located in NYC
