We need a new cental heating boiler. Any advice re types available nowadays?

Our Potterton Nettaheat boiler 16/22 is now 28 years old . We are considering changing it . We need to find an efficient equivalent gas central heating boiler to run 14 radiators and domestic hot water. We do not want a combi boiler as we have a power shower.Does anyone have any recommendations? We need a new cental heating boiler. Any advice re types available nowadays?
Look for condensing boilers. They are more energy efficient (than even modern non condensing types let alone a 28 yr old one) and therefore save you money on gas bills in the long run and of course do that little bit more for the good of the environment. We need a new cental heating boiler. for one thing if your boiler is only 28 years old .... unless your replacing it to conserve energy or its leaking it may not be necessary to replace it as the average life of a properly installed boiler is 40+ years

however there are many types of systems available that can be as high 98% efficient and offer whats called indirect fired hot water ( hot water heated off the boiler instead of it self )

indirect wter heaters are by far the most efficient way of heating water ..... but the afformentioned type of system does come at a cost ...... depending on your exact application and what exactly you would like it to do by means of comfort

you could be looking at a price tag as high $15000.00 for a boiler and water tank with all the necessary piping changes

personally i prefer weil Mclain boilers and highly recomend

an ';Ultra'; with indirect watert heater

many manufacturers are available, though its not necessarily the brand ( even though this should be a big consideration)

but the main factor should be the company installing it for you

and whether or not they really do know what they are doing

( yes lots of company's claim they know what they are doing but dont)

good luck, and if you would like any more help please feel free to contact me
Since you are heating radiators and domestic hot water, I assume you want a boiler that makes ';hot water'; efficiently. I would recommend a cast iron boiler and a indirect,';side arm';, water heater. The boiler makes 180 degree F water to heat the radiators and heats the hot water tank. The best , in my opinion are ';Buderus';, made in Germany, they have Honeywell controls. Warrantied for life. Any good cast iron boiler, serviced properly should last forever. They even make controls that know how cold it is outside and adjust the temperature accordingly. Control also memorizes your living habits and domestic hot water use! Good luck!

It seems to me you are UK and most answers are not, Buderus are well known in Europe and Worcester Bosch have invested in Buderus due to their reputation, but not yet well known here, You will have to change your cylinder to install a new conventional boiler (still a condensing boiler, all boilers have to be condensing in UK unless special permission granted), the Worcester Bosch 35 (now 37) cdi conventional will be more than enough, (but you need calculations to be sure you are not oversized, this is regulation!) don't be afraid to use a combination boiler, just remove the power pump from the shower and pipe up direct, the hot water is at mains pressure so it could even be better than the power shower, also, you could then definitely use a 35cdi (but combination not conventional) because the output to the heating can be adjusted. Boilers are not made for life, I have heard suggestions that manufacturers are to lessen the lifespan of boilers to ten years, because they lose efficiency after that time. If you use an installer who is approved by a manufacturer, you can get 5 years guarantees. Hope this helps.
worcester bosch/ valliant
ill tell you this i recently went through this process myself. and after extensive research. the best boiler on the market is the buderus with a logmatic control. i cant stress it enough..i reduced my heating bill by 45%...couldnt be happier..
I have been informed that Worcester Bosch or Baxi are the best boiler brands.

If your boiler is still in working order i wouldn't replace it unless you are considering selling your house. If this is the case I think you should fit a combi and change your shower as this will add value and make your property more appealing, especially considering the HIPS energy efficiency reports (assuming your home is over 4 bed).
