I will be getting new laminate wood flooring next week. I would like to put some area rugs down in the more walked on areas of the floor. I'm concerned that the rugs might discolor or possibly dull and/or scratch the floors. Is there any advice or something I should know about this type of flooring. I've always had carpeting so this is a whole new experience for me. Any help or thoughts on this would be appreciated.Needing advice on new laminate wood flooring.?

Ask the place installing the floors. They will recommend something for you. I belive that Laminates are designed not to discolor. If dirt gets under the rug and it slides, it could scratch it however, there are non slip pads to pu under there for that. If you are installing yourself, ask the place you are buying the laminate from.
We put laminated flooring in our kitchen this spring, I have a mat in front of the sink and there is no discoloring as of yet.
I put chair pads on the kitchen chairs to keep them from scratching.
I was told to use a terry mop %26amp; plain warm water, other wise adding cleaners will take away the shine.
I'm very happy with the laminate and it is very easy to keep clean!
I use a Swiffer to sweep the floor.
If you're worried about the scratching from the high traffic areas, my suggestion would be ask people to remove their shoes. Even though they may wipe their feet on the rug, there are still tiny pebbles in the creases of their shoes the will cause blemishes on the finish of your floor.
Not a problem at all. I had rugs over my pergo for years. The rug I used was a reminent which dosnt really have a backing. Because rugs are so darn expensive I went with a reminent and hot glued the edges so it would frey. Worked perfectly and saved a but load of money.
