What is the best advice you can give to someone starting a new position as a manager?

The position is in a relatively small office and I will be a project manager. What would you do to start the job out right? Give me your best first day on the job tips, and anything else you have learned while being a mananger. Thanks! What is the best advice you can give to someone starting a new position as a manager?
Never ask anyone on your team to work harder than you do. Give credit where credit is due...do not hog the spotlight when your team or a single member does a great job. Always treat the members of your team with the same respect that you expect from them. Leave slang and four letter words out of your vocabulary at work. Keep work at work, home at home. Get to know each member of your team...and remember to have compassion when they need it. Set goals that are attainable.

Good luck. What is the best advice you can give to someone starting a new position as a manager?
Make people respect you, Don't worrier about what people tell you, and make the decisions you feel are right.
Relax. Tell the truth. Be kind.....

Good luck
Be honest.

Treat everybody the same.
Failure is not an option...
Watch your back, cover your ***, and take the time to get to know your team.
dont play favorites be fair to everyone the same
Be a manager, but walk in the shoes of those who report to you. Understand them, take their issues and give them positive feedback in return. Compliment the littlest things they do well (in front of everyone) and if you have to give them feedback or talk to them about something, do it in private, one on one.

Be a boss, but don't boss them around. Take control, but don't make them feel like they have to do exactly what u say.

If they bring a problem to you, ask them if they have a solution as well. Don't expect them to bring u a whole load of problems without any solutions. Tell them that nicely.

Best of luck.
Get to know your team very well and watch your back. Don't be the friend of your employees - just be their managers. Some if not all of them will try to be freinds with you by little they will use whatever information they get about you to blackmail you later on. Always be strong.
do your home work remember you will be the one making the final decision. don't think you know everything solicit help from others and they will do what they can to help you succeed, slight them and they will do everything they can to help you fail.
